A Rare Succulent Flower in Land Park

By
Real Estate Agent with Elizabeth Anne Weintraub, Broker DRE #00697006

AEONIUM

Aeoniums, a type of succulent that grows very well in Land Park, also are monocarpic. The rosette elongates into a conical flower spike. This is the prettiest of all of my flowering succulents and the only time I have seen it bloom:

AEONIUMS

I put in this last photo so you can see the scale of the flowering top in relation to the rest of the succulent. I do have to cover these in the winter when temperatures drop below freezing but otherwise this is a hardy succulent. And pretty, too.

Elizabeth- I've seen many flowering succulents but never one like this.  What happens to the flower? Does it eventually dry up?

I've never seen this before, either. It probably does dry up, just like other flowers on succulents. My husband accused me of warping it by leaving a sheet over it too long, when all it was doing was flowering, LOL. Like other plants of this nature, you can break off a limb, stick it in the dirt, and it will grow.

That's an amazing flower which I have not seen before Elizabeth. I like how you stepped back and showed us the big picture too.

That is really something spectacular. IN Encinitas where I live, there are a lot of succulent nurseries and it is fun to go check out the variety.

I love it when you share photos from your garden.  So unlike the stuff I'm used to seeing in Northern VA.  I love it!

That is gorgeous! We're still trying to figure out what to plant in the front yard. I may take the wee people to the nursery on Monday after school and let them pick something cool to have some fun digging in the dirt with. :-)
