a Simple Facebook Page Timeline Checklist

So Facebook has converted over all your Pages to the Timeline style.

Hopefully you were prepared.  Just in case, here’s what you should have already done.

timeline

Update your Profile Image – It’s now a square 125 x 125px image.  You’ll need to upload a 180px square for it though.  Read: Cover Photos and Profile Images

Create a compelling Cover Photo – It’s a 851 x 315px image with no calls to action, no web addresses or phone numbers.  Keyword is photo, eh?

Update your About Section – Especially that little snippet that shows under the cover photo.  Make sure you optimize that and complete the rest of the boxes available.

Move your Apps – On your timeline and to the right of the “About” section there will be 4 boxes.  The first is Photos.  It doesn’t move and you can’t change it.  The next three do move.  Click the dropdown and you’ll see all your Apps. Hovering on the box where you want to move an App will show you a pencil edit. While you might have 20 Apps, only 12 will show under the dropdown.  More critical than that is the 3 you show at the top.  Of those 3, I’ll guess that the first one next to Photos is the most clicked.  Make sure your most important App is in that box.  Read: Move your Apps!

Change the picture on your Apps – You can change the image that shows for each of the App boxes.  That image is 111 x 74px.  It can contain text.  Might be a great place for a call to action.  “WATCH THIS FIRST!” is what my welcome tab now says. You can also change the Title for each App.

Check Your Apps – This is critical.  Check to make sure they render in every browser and in both PC and Macs.  Next check to make sure they work for people not signed in to Facebook (remember I might be coming from a Google Search).  Check to see if they render for SECURE and NON SECURE users.  (that’s the https vs https in your browser url).  Check for this in all the available browsers and on both Macs and PCs.  Why? Here’s what I just found…

Oh gosh Mike, this is still on my list.  I'm bookmarking this and will reblog later.  At this rate, it looks like this is about 2 weeks from now on my project list.

Debbie - it takes my roughly an hour start to finish, to do all the above for my clients.  That's all.

Hi Michael, I know I should have already done all these items on your list, but I procrastinated. I got my work cut out for me this weekend. Thanks for the Check List.

Mike: I appreciate the checklist and I'm going back through it now.  There has been some confusion among users in my office including me.  My understanding was no text at all in the cover photo but you are saying, just no call to action, phone number so if I add my name on my photo and post it, that should not be a problem, is that right?  Thanks.

Donna - You can put your name, that would be ok.  I took my blog header image that contained the text AreWeConnected.com and had to photoshop out the .com

As the rules state...

While your Page may be all about business, surprisingly here’s what your cover image CANNOT show

    1. Price or purchase information, such as “40% off” or “Download it at our website”
    2. Contact information, such as web address, email, mailing address or other information intended for your Page’s About section
    3. References to user interface elements, such as Like or Share, or any other Facebook site features
    4. Calls to action, such as “Get it now” or “Tell your friends”

Hi Mike: I appreciate your response very much.  I actually just read the guidelines about 10 minutes ago and then I saw your reply but it really helps to have a pro like you confirm that I'm not breaking a rule by adding my name.  Looking through several of your other great blogs.  Thanks for sharing great information with those of us who are a bit challenged.
