Recently, I took a new listing. Originally, the seller and her husband built this house as a "starter home" she told me and as we went from room to room, I could tell it was a difficult task to let go of her home where she had lived for over 25 years and raised her family - a home filled with so many memories.
Now, her children are grown, finding their own paths in life. The time has come for her to move on to a new and exciting chapter in her life. Emptied of it's contents and cleaned from top to bottom in preparation for the listing, the home is now a vacant house just waiting to make a new owner happy.
It reminded me once again that there is a human component to almost every real estate transaction. Sometimes it's happy, sometimes it's sad, sometimes it's bitter-sweet. Buyers do not always get to see this side - nor do we as Realtors when we work with a buyer.
As I was looking through the photos that I took that day to pick those that I would be using in the marketing of this home, I came across this shot of the front yard. Like the rays of sun captured in the leaves, it reflects the happiness this home provided to its former occupants. As the eye travels across the front yard, the serenity of the scene has such a calming and peaceful effect.
There is much more to a house than the structural components, I'm hoping the new owners will discover the "soul of the home" and recognize all it has to offer.
