Real Estate Video - Portland, MI (You Can Too!)

By
Real Estate Attorney

This video is a good example of what you can do by yourself to make a video of your listings and upload them to http://www.zipvo.com/.  Although the video does have some shake to it, it gives your potential buyers a good understanding what this house is about.  It starts with a good view of the street, moves on the entryway and then walks through each room of the house.  It finishes by viewing the back yard and videos a view of the house from the back.  The realtor did this real estate video by himself, taking the video and talking as he walks through the house.

I guess I don't get this.  As I seller I would FIRE my agent if they put this out as a marketing piece. Although I definitely think video has it's place in marketing, and I've seen some really great video tours, this hack job to me is the equivalent of a 'drive by' photo shoot by a realtor who shoots the house out the side window and gets a clip of the rear view mirror in the shot - and uploads it to MLS!

To me this would HURT your seller.  If you're a decent agent who understands marketing and business, you would either 1) not do a half ^$$% job or 2) pay someone to do it correctly.  Otherwise your seller suffers and you look like a fool.

To me this is as unwatchable and uninteresting as Uncle John's marathon home movie night....  and for the agent - embarrassing.

I have to disagree with you.  It is obvious that this sales agent put time into this.  He is obviously not a professional but certainly got accross what this house is all about.  He certainly didn't just 'drive by' and shoot the video.  He even put time into editting some textual information into the video.

I do agree that it is not a professional video but it definitely NOT a drive by.  I would rather see my rep putting time into putting this together rather than have no video.

Any other thoughts out there?

Kind of leaning towards the "not a good idea" end of this one.  Just because you CAN do something doesn't always mean you should.  It makes the agent look VERY unprofessional, and I'm sure the house looks a whole lot better than its presented here. Personally I would use still photography or hire someone who knows what they're doing with video.

I agree with Martin, this agent was creative and look at all the views he got on the property.  I think it is professional and do not agree with Theresa.  Sellers want the house sold .. whos to say a professional video would do better than what he has done?

There's a weatherman on tv thats very different and to me not really the "ideal" weatherman .. but he is totally popular and everyone wants to watch him for his animation and passion.  How could you say that someone like that who has massive amount of viewers is not beneficial to the station? They watch him because he is real .. and interesting.  Does it reflect on the station as "unprofessional" ? No .. they are doing what they need to do to get viewers to watch the weather.
