Bob... I wasn't far behind you at number 45 but have since learned a little more about the site.  Based on a comment from another blog it appears a person must be a member of the network in order to visit your profile which makes in less attractive as an alternate blog site for consumer content.

Bob I have a couple of questions. What is a social network?  If I join can I blog about localism? Does anyone who is not a realtor join a social network that is about real estate?  Is it easier to meet potential clients if I network with other agents?  Is there such a thing as a social network that Jeff Turner doesn't belong too?

Bob - thanks for answering my questions.  I guess I am not like the rest of the group here.  The more social networks that I join the fewer friends I have. Friends are important to me, sometimes I need them, and sometimes they need me but it all works out.  For being someone who lives in my computer you have been a decent friend.  You make me laugh, you find my car keys and you even get me a bagel fro breakfast.  I guess I can't complain too much. . . yet I can't pinch you, I can poke you, but I can't hug you either or even hear your voice.  I miss the sound of the human voice.  Other than Jeff Turners voice of course.  I can hear that all day if I want to but it isn't the same as having a conversation, it is more like be talked at.  I think I miss conversations too.  That kind of back and forth and give and take.  I like to interrupt while people are talking.  i can't do that here either.  Well thanks Bob, I am off to a meeting with a bunch of people.  We will all sit around a big table and have a conversation.

" 1. Upload your profile picture.  This is very important...others will recognize your face before they will your name!  Besides you don't want to go around looking like this." Wise guy!

Excuse me... no one invited me... (Elaine says my invite got lost in the emailosphere....) I think my picture is up there now....  It is the 6th Ning.com network I've  joined so my picture was there.  In fact I may have  have two different  Real Estate World or Realty World (which is it?)  accounts.  They said to give it another 24 hours because the Real Estate World network is not showing up on my Ning.com networks.  I should have gone to Ning.com into my account and then added Real Estate World, instead I signed in using the same user name and password but it did not go to my Ning.com account... with photo, etc.   I may have two...

Besides doesn't everyone, who is anyone know Maureen McCabe without a photo?

That Network was started by a Central Ohio builder, I am sure he is thrilled with all the  AR members joining.  It is pretty. Ning is pretty easy ...  you can make it look nice but I am not sure whether the time is warranted though as far as contact with consumers or even just the general public.  To me it is like a mini Facebook for real estate agents...  Only time will tell if it is worth much.

Maureen, You are still faceless :( I don't know if its the same Maureen I know here... what proof do I have?  You could be ahh... someone else... Are you really Maureen McCabe?

And yes there are two Real Estate Worlds on NING.com.  Might have to join both so you don't miss anything.

There is a Maureen McCabe who is a real estate agent in Florida too.  Maybe it is her and I am just confused, that it is me....

I am pretty sure then that I have two accounts.  I said "HELP" to Ning.com and a very nice person named Laura responded.  She said it should all be OK in about 48 hours from when I joined that particular network.  I told her I would whine again if it does not get fixed on it's own...  she responded back to let her know... what a nice network, they even allow whining on on Ning.com

I use the default paper bag face on mybloglog.com too... I'm a a flower on Twitter...  Two Real Estate Worlds... I could join both twice with and without my Ning.com account RE World squared?  RE World to the Nth degree?  RE World to the Ningth degree...

Maureen: Well, ~I~ know you without a photo.

Footnote:  http://www.myagentbook.com/  actually looks like a pretty decent network, but they don't seem to get much attention.  I'm not active there since they seem to concentrate on "real estate"  (!!??!!)  rather than the peripherals that interest me.

Bob C's silhouette? You be the judge!I believe  Bob C modeled for the photo for Real Estate World... you always see Bob turned a bit to the side so the squarish head doesn't show....trying not to say "square head."  There was an informal photo of Bob somewhere, sometime on some real estate or social network someplace... I wonder if that is the default on all Ning.com networks.  I have always liked the cloud head that ActiveRain uses because it is androgynous. This can't be a woman because even if she had really short hair...  she would not have shoulders that big unless she was Brooke Shields...

Carson on Agent Genius blogged about the hottest new network today...  Look at all these comments on Bob's post.  I wonder why ActiveRain did not feature this post?

Setting up a Ning network was very easy and interesting. Mine has not met with the mad success of Josh DiYanni's...  it is interesting to watch how quickly people are joining it.

As "faceless Maureen" said, the site was started by a local central Ohio builder. He sent me an invitation, so I'm member #3. I really like the layout - we can make it much more attractive and professional than AR, plus I like having my photos and videos right there on my page.

I do wonder about whether Google will eventually pick up on it given that a sign-in is required.

Since points aren't involved, there doesn't seem to be any incentive for the gamers to join, like we have here. So as Missy said, maybe the "meanies" will stay away.

maybe you covered this already but I can't stop to read all the comments...Maureen McC shows up twice, once with the picture we all know and love from here and once faceless.  I am guessing the faceless one is the Florida one the real McCoy, err, I mean McCabe, mentions above.

No I am an idiot both are me... I did not get an invite, heard rumbling about Real Estate World but I  couldn't find it.  I  ran into Elaine at the office.  She showed me a link to click on.  I clicked, realized it was Ning.com and thought I had the correct ID and password that I was signing into my Ning.com account... Then later  I signed in to my Ning.com account and added Real Estate World there... I made a mess.

Maybe I can sell the one without my photo (the one with Bob C's silhouette)  to the other Maureen McCabe who is in real estate.  It comes with friends already installed.

Elaine, Is that who Josh is?  A builder in Ohio?

I notice that google has not found me on REW yet.  I believe it was purely set up for professionals to network.  It seems that the public cannot find it on their own through search results.  It is a fine idea, but I think it would be more effective on a local level for networking...right now it seems we are just getting social over there without throwing sheep or points.

Also, you don't get any linking points, since your profile page is not accessible from the outside without signing up.

Bob, yes, Josh is with DiYanni builders here in central Ohio. I just noticed that a Florida builder has joined. Could be neat if more builders across the nation get involved.

On REW, I asked Jeff Turner if the sign-in could be turned off since he said he has several networks on Ning. That would allow the spiders to do their thing and would allow consumers to view. I really like its layout and the ability to have custom looks without much work. I also like having my photos and videos in the sidebar. Very user friendly.

Bob is right. Josh meant it for local networking... I wrote to ask if he's Henry's son, brother, nephew and he offered me spec lists and floor plans, because that's what he set the group up for, promoting DiYanni.  Real estate is local.   I don't work in his part of Central Ohio much even...

He's Dan's son, Henry's nephew.

I think it is interesting to see how viral it is... I see one of the ActiveRain gamers joined.

Chris, Think about it...we are talking about promoting another site off of Active Rain...They would probably hope this would get buried and we work on fixing problems here first, before running off.

Mags, You know I am only busting your chops...You don't have a mean bone in your body.

Maureen, Gamers...what would they do there?  Maybe just copy and paste...or even Real Work?

I think this would be great to local network.  Like I mentioned above I have seen this type of networking on meetup.com.  We have a group of local professionals that exchange info and ideas for business on there.

Eliane, The setup is very friendly.  I am looking forward to Jeff's response.  I created a network over there but have not played with the settings yet.

NO I AM NOT Publicizing it...it is only for experiment and maybe a tutorial later... I really truly don't want to be part of all these networks. I do want to network but really when is enough...enough.  My sarcasm gets worse and worse with each one.

John, I think Hyper Local Networking on NING.com is perfect and you are right less noise.

Jimmy, Best advice I can give you is TAKE YOUR TIME.  Stay on one network until you know everyone or most.  Believe me they are the same people you will meet on the next one.  We are the same 4% of the realtors that blog, maximize the internet for marketing, and utilize all the tools that technology offer.  We are cutting edge...we are insanely obsessed with joining the next Buzz in Social Media, web 2.0 thingy.

Carole, You do have sumTING to say...you potty mouth.  :)

Bob ...IMHO gaming if it starts there will be "cut and paste" if Real Estate World  would show up in the search engines. I don't think they necessarily are doing it for points on ActiveRain anymore.  If not maybe something new and exciting... maybe cutting edge of how to use web 2.0.

Maybe I'm a gamer.  I may just have invited people on AR for the points since I feel no urge to invite anyone to Real Estate World....  I joined AR to promote my blog.  I did not want another place to blog.  I still feel the same way.  Other than 140 characters on Twitter as microblogging I don't particlulary want to blog to the real estate industry. I miss the early ActiveRain, sometimes I think of something I should blog on ActiveRain to the real estate industry and then I say "nah...."

Maggie my second membership on Real Estate World is I believe number 85, the one I deleted was 4 or 5 before that... it was so odd, same email address and password got me in one or the other but there was no way to  know until I got in which was which, and both were Maureen McCabe.   I changed the membership that was 'the little silhouetta of a man' to the name "Sponge Bob Square Head" before I could figure out how to leave it... it never showed up that way.  The lag on some things on Ning.com can be frustrating, I have run into it on some of the other networks I am on there.

I am on another local network, on Ning.com very small but it is not all real estate agents, there are various local bloggers, public broadcasting and a local museum... It is mostly local.  We have had two real LIVE meetings... real people, real local.  I see that as a place I would rather be involved rather than the same old, same old with the usual suspects on just one more network (ActiveRain, Facebook, Linkedin to a certain extent, digg.com in a way and now Real Estate World.)  That could change though depending on how Real Estate World develops...

I have always been opposed to the points.  I think they corrupt ActiveRain with blogging for points and comment diarrhea.  I think the points make a lot of the content mediocre.

I invited so many good bloggers who invited so many good bloggers that I have been in the first slot in my state since a few weeks after my first post.  I talked Caleb into not giving me blogging points but that did not work for long at all once it was automated.  I don't think I was inviting just for the points, but I wantted to invite the best bloggers, Maureen Francis, Bonnie Erickson, Leanne Paynter...  and some I had no idea would be so good Roberta in San Diego, John Novak...  I did not have a concept of how the points would multiply but I have no interest in inviting anyone to Real Estate World..

It is all purely viral...I could tell you that 12 months ago, I would not have thought I would be in it this deep.  I wrote my first post was written in February 2006 and never imagined that I would even think this would be a business plan.

Paul Chaney just wrote about bloggings 10 year anniversary...And still only 4% of the realtors do it with mixed results.  10 years...wow.  That's a lot of births and deaths of dotcoms.

Elaine, that's good news about the readability.  I am not sure I will benefit from it.  I am having network overload.  I can't keep up with this.  As Missy stated in a post today (yesterday?)  I am sticking to the Rain.  Unless someone here tells me I absolutely positively need to join and be active somewhere (and can convince me of that) I have had enough.
