I recently got a copy of ACT! 6 and am working to implement this into my system. I know its a few years old and there may be other "better" solutions out there, but right now I don't have the extra money to direct in that way.

So is there anyone out there that can either help me figure out how to effectively use ACT! or point me to user groups or newsboards that have good groups? I hate the learning curves that come with new software! I guess that's why I don't get into today's video games.. I don't have enough time to learn all of them!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Ed

Ed,

I reccommend upgrading to ACT 2007 or 2008. Even though it is more of a memory hog the lastest version is feature rich. Things like mobile synchronization, field level security, and just the fact that they are still providing support for it is great.

I dont use Act, but my experience with other softwarwe and other contact management systems may be useful

Most software packs tons of features into it and every so often the developers, to keep their product up to date come out with a new version, with something new and perhaps better. Consider Word ...At its core it is a word processor, but over the years lots and lots of related features have been built it.

Now heres the point I want to make....

No-One knows how to use or even has a use for most of the features built into modern software programs. Most users learn what they need to know to do their job, and as time goes on, might learn something new for a special job they are doing. Take this example...I know Word has a mail merge function and I know I can print envelopes...but I dont know how to use these features. Nearly all my communication is by email. If I do a big mailing I employ a professional printer and mailing house.

Back to ACT...at its core its a contact management system. There will be three major pieces all integrated, 1) a database, 2) a calendar 3) a to-do list.  Dont try to learn everything the program can do all at once.  Learn how to get the names of your contacts into the database, and schedule your activities and you will be 90% there...You can learn the rest as you go along

The ACT website has a user community section that will probably provide the help you need.

The best way is to just start using it and learn one thing at a time. One step at a time works best for me.
