Does Winter Put The Freeze On Your Business?

How many of you are waiting for the crocus to bloom?  Signaling the start of the spring home buying season.  CorcusJust because it is cold outside doesn't mean we need to deep freeze our business.  Bear's hibernate, there is no need for Realtors or Loan Officers to hibernate.  When it is cold out it does take a little extra energy to get out and do many of the same things that were a lot warmer to do during the summer.  Think about it though, plenty of your competition thinks they are bears and need to hibernate, so you will have less competition right now.

I found a great articlethis morning and it is what made me think about why does winter need to put a freeze on things.   How hard would it be to run the snowblower over your neighbors driveway while doing your own?  To take a couple of winter coats to the Salvation Army or winter coat drive at your church, after all they are just taking up space in your closet and could keep someone warm.  Next time it snows, take a couple of minutes and help your co-worker dust off their car as well.  Donate some food to the local food pantry.  The article has great ideas for helping out your community during the winter.  Getting out in the community is how we get our business, summer, or winter.

Team up with a partner and the winter cold will not feel so bad.  I remember a day when I went with a great Winter Coat and HatRealtor partner of mine calling on local business.  It was about a million degrees below zero that day, we laughed the whole day.  The conversations were easy to start as everyone wondered what we were doing out on a day like that, and we got several leads that day, of which one turned into a regular customer.

Go put your coat, hat, mittens, and boots on and look for some business.  It's out there.

Good ideas, Jon.  We have a bunch of clients listing after the new year.  We'll also encourage families who might be thinking of buying in the spring to buy earlier.  That way, if they have school age kids, they can make some friends before summer.

Karen, the cold must have frozen people up!  Great ideas to get the families with kids to move before summer.  So many move right at the end of summer so the end up in a completely new place, no friends, new school, new everything.  Great idea.

Jon, the top Realtor/Broker/Owner in our area always has his best numbers in the 4th quarter. He constantly pounds into his agents over and over again that sellers need to sell when everyone else is not selling. Buyers need to do the same.

I am finding that Dec. has turned into the biggest refi. month of the year for me. On the other hand, a mortgage broker I know believes that working the two weeks before Christmas is a waste of time. For him he is right, he doesnt work his buisness so its not busy at all. Perception is reality! Great post!
