So, what is a Cash Mob you ask?  Well, a Cash Mob is a group of people who assemble at a local business and all buy items from that business.  The purpose of these mobs is to support both the local businesses and the overall community.  There is a group of people living in Cleveland, led by attorney Andrew Samtoy, claiming to be the originators of the term and event.  Kudos to them for coming up with this great idea.  Their first Cash Mob event was started on November 16, 2011 when they gathered approximately 40 people to shop at a local bookstore.  Since this event, Cash Mobs have popped up all over the country and Traverse City, MI is about to have its first Cash Mob on April 7, 2012 at 10:00 am at Old Mission Multigrain Bakery and Cafe located at 1326 South Airport Rd.

Old Mission Multigrain Bakery and Cafe is a locally owned business that has been here in Traverse City for over 20 years, sharing family recipes.  Below are some of their products, hot off their web site

Old Mission Multigrain 2 lb Loaf (Blue Label): a cake like, dense loaf loaded with organic grains and local sweeteners.  Fantastic for sandwiches, Bruschetta, garlic toast and the list goes on. It makes the most incredible grill cheese you will ever eat!

Honey Oat 2 lb Loaf (Yellow Label): a moist chewy bread filled with organic rolled and steel cut oats plus yummy local honey. It’s a great compliment to soups or salads; and like all of our breads it’s wonderful just eaten by the slice. A friend recently told us “PB and J never had it so good.”

Cabin Fever 1 lb Half Loaf (Pink Label): This decadent treat is made with the same ingredients as Old Mission Multigrain plus organic dates, raisins and pecans. It is a very popular breakfast bread. Try it using it as French Toast topped with pure Michigan Maple Syrup of course!

Drunken Rueben 2 lb Loaf (Brown Label):  Made with Short’s Bellaire Brown Ale, this rye will knock your sock’s off!  Freshly ground Rye Berries, Molasses, rye flakes, and onion make this bread irresistible.

Zydeco 2 lb Loaf (Purple Label):  This bread is loaded with organic wild rice, veggies, red beans and finishes with a fantastic creole kick!

Come join us Saturday, April 7th at 10:00 am and support this fabulous Traverse City business.

I remember reading something about a local community all showing up to buy books from a local bookstore, but I'm almost positive it was before November of last year. Those bakery items sound awesome! Wish I was a little closer so I could participate. Good luck and have fun with that!
