Helpful saving tips to keep your utility bills down.

Being single, I can find ways to keep my living expenses down.  For example-

1.  unplug any appliances or electronics that are not being used.  When I am not using my paper shredder it is not plugged in.

2.  only turn on the light in the room that you are in for the moment.

3.  open windows when there is a cool breeze that way you won't have to use your ceiling fan or ac.

4.  keep only minimal groceries in your fridge that way the fridge is not working hard to keep the perishables at the proper temperature.

5.  I use the laundromat to wash clothes.  I save on the water and electric bill.

6.  when showering, wet yourself down, turn off the water, then lather and then rinse.  ( a past customer suggested this)

7.  same for brushing your teeth and washing your face in the sink.  No need to have the water running.

8.  for my gas bill- if you know me well- then you know I suck at cooking so I don't use the gas stove much.  HA

9.  take advantage of harvesting water for outside plants and flowerbeds by making your own rain barrel.  Comes in handy for sure.

10.  and lastly- suggested by a neighbor- only flush the commode once a day.  I think he means to take care of your business, leave it there all day long and then flush.  ( I can't see myself doing that)  However, sewer charges are crazy high in Glenn Heights.  I might have to break down and do it since I like flushing alot.  LOL

You can add your own suggestions as well.

Angelia... I like some of your suggestions quite a bit, others perhaps less.  But that neighbor of yours who suggested only flushing their toilet ONCE a day... oh... my... God.  Their home must really stink.  I am sorry... no other way to put it.  That... is nutz.

Also... if you "do your business" several times during the day... and then flush it once at the end of the day... there is a huge chance that your toilet will back up.  Not a good plan.

The best way to lower cost is to conserve. Your right about phantom loads using electricity. You can now purchase toilets that had a number 1 and number 2 flush. They even sell kits to change existing models but it's best to start with a low flush toilet and not one of those old 6 gallon per flush ones.

Angelia, good points and tips. However, can't agree with your neighbor though.
