Kwee, without having palm trees in our area, I had no idea.   Looks like one is older than the other!   Good job Marco!

I am amazed at how many different kinds of palms there are.  For example, I had never heard of Queen or Cabbage Palms.  Here in California, we have Date Palms, Mexican Basket Palms, and a bunch of others.

Hi Kwee,

I have about 5 Queen Palms, 4 Date Palms and a lovely Saga Palm in my backyard near the pool, I wish the palms would stop growing, My yard is very tropical to go with the pool theme but I miss the lovely trees like Oaks, Elms, Birch etc with beautifiul leaves and flowers. I do have 2 fruit trees on the side and they are my favorites.

Thank you all for your comments.

The 1st photo is a Queen Palm (Syagrus romanzoffiane) is category II invasive species in Florida.

The 2nd photo is one of 15 species of Palmetto palm - Cabbage Palm (Sabal Palmetto) .It is a State Tree of both Florida & South Carolina.  In Sarasota county you need a tree permit to cut the cabbage palm according to Sarasota County code, chapter 54 Article XVIII.  For more information contact the Natural Resources of Sarasota county at Tel:941-861-5000.
