Need More Proof That Blogging Works? Just Stop Blogging!

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with North Shore Suburbs & Chicago Real Estate

Come Back SoonFor a couple of weeks last month, my participation on ActiveRain was curtailed by several commitments.  Thank goodness for Smartphones, though.  At least, I managed to log in every day.  I just couldn't bear the thought of losing 100 points x 14 days = 1400 points (but who’s counting!)  Otherwise, I did not write, post, or comment on any blogs at all.

About halfway through my sabbatical, I received a message from someone who is NOT an ActiveRain member, but who follows my ActiveRain blog.  The message said:  “No blogs in a week … Are you doing okay?”  A big smile emerged across my face.  Honestly, I never imagined anyone would even notice that I was ‘Missing in Action.'  If I ever thought that blogging didn't matter -- surely I had to think again.

Lesson learned on ActiveRain:  If you blog regularly and consistently, other members will start to notice you, perhaps subscribe to you, and hopefully begin to read your blogs as regularly and consistently as you write them.  That being said, I had clearly forgotten that non-ActiveRain members could ALSO be reading my blogs regularly and consistently too.  And, as we all know, the more people get to know you -- the more likely you are to earn new clients, referrals, and repeat business.  Plus, as an added bonus, you never know when someone in Cyberspace might actually be looking forward to your next post!

So, from time to time, if any of my fellow ActiveRain members need a little reassurance about the positive effects of blogging, please let me know.  I have this nice, little, feel-good reminder that I would be delighted to share with you.

Hi Carie, I totally agree; and I believe that you have to blog in order to be found online.  Blogging lets people see what your thoughts are on other issues and topics outside of real estate-essentially giving them a glimpse of the real you!

My father in law died last year so I had to stop blogging for a few months until the waters calmed. I did see a difference when not blogging-less phone calls. Here I am blogging

Bryan:  Yes, it felt good to receive the message.  And, you're right ... it sure does seem odd to be away for awhile.

Bob:  Nice to feel it's ''raining" ... well said :)

Kimberly:  Thanks for sharing your Facebook story.  As you said, just when you think you're 'writing to the air', right?  And yes, give the Smartphone a try.  I've started using it as my source for ActiveRain On The Go ... :)

Praful:  Not blogging for a couple of weeks was not easy, that's for sure!

Norma:  Yes, you're right.  Our blogs have value ... and people are reading them!

Angie:  Thank you!  It was quite heartwarming to receive the message :)

Tom:  Yes, it did feel awesome, for sure :)

Phil:  Thanks ... I never expected to receive a message like that either!

Debbie:  I most definitely appreciated the message!  And, thanks ... it's nice to be back :)

Valerie:  Sounds like you have had a similar experience ... cool!

Carie-it's these "aha" moments when you realize that you're not wasting your time with all of this and yes someone actually reads what you write. Glad you're back!

Wallace:   Wow ... that is fantastic to hear!  You never know who's reading, right?

Jordon:  It was certainly a great feeling!  Best of success to you too :)

Ginny:  Yes, having that connection is so important and just the beginning.  A business opportunity after that ... you never know!

Marc:  If only I had more than one post in draft mode at a time ... but thanks for the suggestion :)

Cheryl:  Thanks ... as you say, it was neat :)

Michael:  Thank you ... I am very happy to be back :)

Morgan:  You're right ... it is nice to know that people are watching and reading!

MaryKay:  I agree.  It is difficult to be away from blogging ... whatever the reason.

Ed:  Great point!  And, since we don't know how many Non-ActiveRain members are reading our blogs ... we don't realize how much advertising we might be getting!

Jared & Amanda:  Yes, it was very nice!  And, I agree ... tiny breaks from time to time are sometimes necessary :)

Silvia:  Yes, it was a pleasant reminder that people are noticing ... and reading!  Thanks ... great to be back :)

Cheryl:  Woo Hoo!  Congratulations on taking the plunge!

Cindy:  It got me thinking ... that's for sure!

MeLisa:  You're absolutely right!  Blogging allows people to get to know you on so many levels.  Or, as you said, they get a glimpse of the real you.  To me, that is such an important element for building relationships.

Harry:  Sounds like you experienced what I'm talking about.  Although, under very sad circumstances ... I'm sorry to hear that.

Richie:  Wow!  Thanks, Richie ... I will!  Now I'm curious to know which comment you are talking about ;-)

Pamela:  AR is like a family that you choose to be around ... I love it!!

Joetta:  Thanks ... it definitely made me feel good!

Connie:  Yes, it was way cool!!

Roland:  You're right ... it is easy to get sidetracked!  And, life sure has a way of 'getting in the way' sometimes, doesn't it?

Kathy:  An "aha moment" ... that is a perfect way to describe it!  Thanks and I'm glad to be back too!

Carie, I had to laugh when you said you MIA for several weeks, I know the feeling, I get laughed at when I get up early and need to find a connection to login.  Inspiring story.

Hi Carie. I know exactly what you mean about falling off the blogging trend. Your readers do look for you when you are a regular blogger. I feel like I am MIA when I fall behind just a couple of days, like this past weekend, and the weekend before that. I used to have more time for weekend blogging, but lately that has changed. Glad to hear that one of your readers missed seeing your posts. That is positive reinforcement for blogging.

Nice sentiment.  And I have gotten lots of business via my SEO blogs and niche marketing.  However the top Rainmakers in my area do hardly any business.  I'm trying to change that trend.

Carie, thank you for such a nice post.  It is encouraging for me, a new blogger, to see the commitment of an established blogger; and also the reality that sometimes, missed days happen.  Congrats on the feature, know that I appreciate your post.  Happy blogging!

Dave:  You point out an excellent reason for blogging too.  The more you blog -- the more you reach potential readers, which hopefully could turn into potential business connections!

Adrian:  Thanks!  Isn't it funny the lengths we go to sometimes just to make sure we "Login?" :)

Jerry:  It sure was nice to be missed :)  And, as you said ... definitely positive blogging reinforcement!

John:  Sounds like you're doing an excellent job of changing that trend.  Congratulations on your blogging-related successes :)

Sandy:  Yes, I really appreciated the message!  And, you're right ... sometimes it's the little things that mean so much :)

Christina:  Thank you for such a nice comment!  Yes, we all have our days when we must take a break from blogging.  So, you just have to pick up where you left off and keep on going.  It's so worth it ... and a lot of fun too :)
