As many of you know, we held our 2nd Annual "Trick or Treat for the Troops this past October, to collect donations for soldiers serving overseas during the holidays. I just want to share this letter with you -- those of you who dontaed, those of you who wished us well, and those of you who gave us the names of friends and family members serving overseas that could be our recipients. This Marine took the time to write us a long letter of thanks...and to share with us his real estate aspirations! We'll post more reponses as we get them!

Also, anyone in the Emerald Coast area of Florida, please read this Marine's letter - he's interested in a real estate career when he gets out of the Marines - you may want to hire him for your team!

To the Ladies of The Gebhardt Group:

The boys and I of 2nd Recon Bravo Company 1st Platoon recently received your packages. I just wanted to reply with my gratitude to you ladies. Some people put together the onesy and twosy packages, but you went out of your way to send the big packages.

From the quite extensive list of ideas on the back of your flyers, you easily hit all the wickets. For the most part, baby wipes, tuna, beef jerky, small balls (to hand out to the kids) and dolls (for the little girls) are what we primarily use.

Ladies, you are doing a great service to your community by providing them with the real estate professionalism when they need it most, as well as keeping the Marines tied back to reality during the holiday season.

On top of the items that I previously stated, if there is another "packaging for the troops," can you also enclose any items that you feel would benefit someone educating themselves on a real estate career? ...Any list of books that you recommend or tips of do's and don't's for the up and coming?

I'm originally from the southeast Michigan area and anxiously await a career in the Emerald Coast area of Florida.

Again I extend my gratitude for your actions and for this opportunity. Merry Christmas, Ladies!

Sincerely,
SGT. Steven Kaliszewski

Great move.  My hat goes off to you.  These people are living like nobody wants to so we can live like everybody wants to.

Hi, Gary! I totally agree with you - no one can deny that our brave men and women are working hard, no matter how one feels about the war.

Thanks for reading and commenting!

Maura,

Great post, Steve, or Ski as he is known is a great guy. He will make a great Realtor. We will definitely send him some material regarding the Real Estate business, although he wants to be down in Florida. If you go to Iraq Diaries there are some photos of Ski, you may have to scroll down through some of the comments where I have posted photos and emails from Jeremy, and you can catch him in fine singing voice in The 12 days of Christmas as well, I believe he is singing about the 7 swans a swimming.

Aloha Maura!  That is awesome and so nice to see the young Marine thanking you for your efforts.  I know I speak on behalf of many that have been in Iraq over the holidays when I say that SGT Kaliszewski's letter speaks for many thousands of troops that have received packages and gifts from caring people just like you.  You are an unsung hero Maura and will never get due recognition as you deserve but I bet you sure feel great about yourself and putting smiles on the faces of those young troops.  Beleive me, they all appreciate it.  On my last deployment to Iraq, I had Soldiers that never recieved any packages from home but they did recieve packages from caring Americans.  That really brightened their day.  Have a great day and Merry Christmas

Hi, David! I definitely don't think I'm a hero in any sense...I just like to know I can touch a life, make someone happy! I hope that people who read our blog - and blogs like Nick Vandekar's son's "Iraq Diaries" - will be inspired to do the same things. A simple gesture of support can go a long way.

Merry Christmas to you and yours!

Maura, thanks for sharing this. I actually got teary reading his letter and thinking about what you all did for him. It's a great idea and one I think I'm going to incorporate in my business next year. It's just so easy to go about our daily business without realizing how tough they have it over there. Thanks for sharing and helping to make a difference!!

Hi, Colleen! I definitely think you should! It's really so easy to do with such a big pay-off -- letters like this and knowing that you made someone over there smile. =)
