I sit here today unable to take my eyes off the T.V. set.  As Pascack Valley Baby Boomers and teenagers growing up in the 1970's the Funeral of President Ford holds memories for us of a much more innocent time.  "Without Pardon there can be no healing" were the words that remembered this 38th President this morning.  After the pardon of President Nixon, he came to be known as "The Healing President".  Those days were not unlike the current times, fraught with turmoil.  But along came this president with his plaid garments, and his trademark clumsiness offering the comedians of our times like Chevy Chase plenty of material for their Saturday Night Live skits.  President Ford was a man who knew how to laugh at himself and whatever party you may support, this was a President worth honoring.  We are the Baby Boomer generation familiar with such phrases as the Great Depression of our parent's time, the Watergate Scandal, the Vietnam War and "Disco".

So here I sit this morning watching this American family who had so many parralells to my own with Four children gathered around and supporting their frail Mother.  This was our generation so it's difficult for me to look away from something that doesn't happen too often.  The funeral of a past President with it's ceromonies of the American Flag draped casket, the 21 gun salute, the armered limosene carrying the casket making one last trip past the White House.  These are moments that give pause to this momentous occassion.  The only President in history who was not elected but rather appointed.  He may have been defeated in 1976 because of his famous pardoning of President Nixon, but he was a President worth remembering today.  He'll be missed by many for his portrayal of all the great things that this Country stands for!  These were our Fond Remembrances of "The Healing President" from Pascack Valley Baby Boomers.

Lisa, this is good. It comes from your heart. Your personality shows through. Thank you for a thought provoking read.

Thanks so much Mark for reading my blog.  I was really touched by President Ford's funeral.  Maybe I'm getting old or something but it sort of forced me to remember a simpler time in my life.  It also forced me to see how someone who was so overlooked in the history of our country was truly an icon.  I thought about those words "Begin with the End in Mind" and how true it is of what we do in Real Estate and in our daily way we chose to live amongst each other.  He was a person who was really loved at the end.  It touched me.  Thanks again for taking time to read about what I was thinking this morning!

Regards,

Lisa

Darlin' (sorry Robert), if you ever write something that's important to you and you need someone to share it with, I'm honored to be the audience. There is no way to diguise an article that is written from an emotional place.

This was important to you. That's all I need to know. You made me think about a good man. I wouldn't have done that without your article. That is a good thing. I should thank you, not the other way around.

You keep on writing and I'll keep on reading. Deal?

President Ford was by all accounts a kind and caring man. His wife Betty has helped so many. They represented the country with honor and dignity. I will miss him.

I sure hope to be as active as he was ... still playing 18 holes of golf at the ripe age of 92. I love that.
