At The Fruit Stand In New York City.  What the heck IS this?????

at the fruit stand in New York City

I visited China Town in New York City for a shopping trip for the Library's upcoming fundraiser.  (more on that later, I promise)  I just had to take this picture to show all of you.  Whatever it is......I had never seen it before.

Does anyone know what it is and what do you do with it?

Is it edible?

Just wondering.....

You got me on this one.  I had no clue. It kind of looks like a lychee nut on steroids.

Chris, That is  why I love NYC and miss living there. You never know, what you will find or learn about. The Chinese have a very old civilization. Their knowledge dates back, to way before modern medicine. At $7.00 a lb. I would imagine it is restorative in some way. But I will Google it.Caprice

Hi, everyone!  I didn't buy one, but now that I've seen the video that Craig #1 posted, I think I'll be brave and buy one the next time I venture into the city.  I'll be sure to report back to let you know how it tastes.  Thanks for stopping by and commenting!

Chris - I came here from Kathy's post.  Whoever was the first person to eat that was either very brave or very hungry or maybe both.
