The Littlest Tree Dude

By

Tree dudes abound here in Western North Carolina and are favorites of mine to photograph. They're always accommodating subjects. Usually once they’ve put down roots they don’t tend to wander and are so easy to capture in their native habitats.  Luckily for me, working in real estate here...their native habitats are in my workspace.

The littlest tree dude was introduced to me last night at dinner. Our buyers have a house under contract in Franklin had come to town for the home inspection with Tom Johnson. While in town they were very kind to invite us to dinner at Sweet Onion in Waynesville before heading back home. The littlest tree dude is small enough that he fit in the buyer’s purse! Dinner was delicious, the conversation lively and the littlest tree dude sat at the table with the rest of us until we took him home afterwards.

Big difference in the energy level between the littlest tree dude and the tree dudes I usually photograph. Before putting roots down, apparently these guys really get around! When we got him back home to Balsam, Druid Dude (yes, he has a name) posed for me in the hostas, up in one of the trees and on a fallen log out in the woods.

We’ve been very fortunate that most of our buyers have been enjoyable to work with but sometimes there are really special buyers who become friends. These folks are the buyers I had so much fun with a couple of weeks ago, they drove and I got to set up an office in their back seat.

You can tell that we really got a good start on getting to know each other for them to have selected the littlest tree dude as a gift.

Very enchanting post about those tree tudes that appear to love your North Carolina forests more than any other place in the world. And given your camera, you are making them famous!

Yes, fun people and a great meal. But if Druid Dude starts trying to compete with the ones on my broom and hiking staff, we're going to have to duke it out.

Hi Mona,

Great post and I think the little tree dude is adorable. I have a little gnome in my backyard as my husband loves gnomes. My guy is about 3 inches high and looks lost under the saga palm.

Emily, the Great Smoky Mountains and the Blue Ridge range are among the most ancient of mountains in the world.  It only stands to reason that this would be the area the Tree Dudes would flock to.  Maybe I should tone it down?  We could get overrun in no time flat.

Barbara, you wouldn't even have to buy a house here...I would already consider you a friend.

Lisa, I have a feeling we will be seeing the Littlest Tree Dude in even more places!

Mark, I had to google Flat Stanley to see who you were talking about.  Now I know!

Sheila, thanks.  I can't decide if he'll ride in the car with me or hang at the office.  I'm thinking car though...he likes to get out and about.

Party on Wayne, I love it.  Have a good week.

Roger, I can't believe you didn't know about the hovering mouse thing.  It's a big ol' world out there now, isn't it?

Kathy, thanks.  As you can tell I am easily entertained also.

Leslie, Druid Dude is just a little guy...he'd be no match for the broom or hiking staff!  He might be sneakier...you know how those little people can be.

Kristin, this Druid Dude is about two inches tall, but thinks he's taller.

Hi Tammy, thanks. I really think he's very cool too.  Like most males he probably does think he's taller, ha ha ha.

Hi Mona, I had not heard of the tree dudes before but I will have to check this out. This might have to become a part time busiiness for you to insure that everyone has at least a few of the Tree Dudes. Sounds like they may also have a good luck attached too them.
