Two popular and common objects (in their time) carry out the same function, yet one of them has thousands of moving parts and the other has none at all. What are the two objects?

I am going to hazard a guess and say a watch. I am probably incorrect, but that is my guess a wrist watch.

I had to look this one up as I was curious. Interestingly, the one w/ no moving parts was invented/used much earlier.

LOL, Bill - I bet you're exhausted after helping out to build those houses today!!! So, was it the Greeks or the Romans who invented the one without any moving parts? I swear it was the Aztecs. Gonna have to look it up know.

Okay, a sundial AND an hour glass. No moving parts and thousands of grains of sand moving. Lots of close ones there - GG everyone.
Juli, Even older than I thought! And I think you could substitute wristwatch for hourglass and be fine there. Forbes periodically publishes articles on expensive handcrafted watches that are pieces of art, and I'm willing to be have thousands of parts too :)
Per this video, there are 115 parts on a Rolex, but that includes the screws which don't move, LOL. But it was fun learning about it.
Juli, Some of the watches in Forbes make a Rolex look like a Timex :) Works of art for sure.
