Look Who’s Swimming in the Pond?

The city of Redlands, CA is a lovely city and is very progressive. There is a lot of building going on in the North end near the mall and many of the groves have been plowed for development.

Recently we have had a lot of rain and much to my surprise, a new pond has appeared off to the edge of the road near an old citrus grove. Here I found two adorable ducks and they were so nice to stop and let me take their picture.

Hi Patty,

They did not seem at all afraid and poised for me at least 2 minutes...I had to drive away before I got hit as I was just pulled over and still blocking the lane so traffic was having to go around. They are so cute!

Hi Steve, Thanks for the compliment. I have to be honest here; I was in my car and had my older Kodak zoom camera and just took them from the drivers seat through the passenger window. It was sheer luck that they came out as good as they did. Here was my first one though...oops no beak.

Good think I had a few extra seconds to take more.

Yes, you are so right, isn't digital great? I love it as I can usually see the photo right after I shoot so if it is bad, I just take another one without any difficulty. Not like the old cameras where you had to take it in to find out they were all bad and out of focus. Life is good, isn't it?

So true Steve!

I recall my wedding in 1981 and we decided to save money by having my brother-in-law take the pictures vs hiring a wedding photographer. So guess what happened? When he had the film developed, the roll was blank so we had no wedding pictures! Luckily we had many friends and family members taking pictures so we got the negatives and had them blown up but I learned a valuable lesson here. NEVER GO CHEAP ON A WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER.

Hi Kristin, Great photos that you were able to get from your car. Sorry to hear the groves are disappearing, but at least the ducks are still finding places to do their thing. I love the green of the male mallard. They are so flashy compared to their female counterpart.

I drove by yesterday and the ducks have moved on. The water is still there so today after the storm clears I will check again. There is a water park across the street and maybe they have just flown across. Funny how I care what happens to them.
