Some days are better than others!

Yesterday was a pretty good day all things considered. I took my daughter to school and came home to change out of my sweats and get ready for the workday. I printed out my assignments, kissed my husband and took off before 9 am. I like to get out the door before other people get on the road these days. I did get lost (My own fault!)even though I printed out my maps-for some reason, I decided to start from the end and that messed up my plans a bit- see how one little change can mess up your day? I wasn't sure how the day would end up.

As I travelled on a perfectly sunny and slightly warmer winter day, I saw homes with no decorations, homes with loads of toys spread across the front and backyards, homes that were very decorated and one with just a few lights. I even saw an inside holiday tree with tiny lights and very, very few packages waiting for children in a weeks time. Someone had left the lights on the tree on and I thought about my "green" resolution and about how I walk my house shutting off everything that isn't being used. So I wondered why the tree was still on. I guess I worry about the people that I am trying to help. It crossed my mind that this is a rotten time of year to be talking to anyone about their back payments on the mortgage.

It all turned around with my last assignment. I had scheduled to spend the day on Loss Mitigation assignments and I had five to visit. Mostly taking photos and checking in to see how the new adjustments were working out. I stopped by four homes got the photos and talked to a few people but, it wasn't until I reached the last assignment that was on my "out of office" run that I realized how fullfilling this job can be. This couple had been through an adjustment and normally that means there is a lot of stress in the house by the time I get there. But yesterday was a blessing. The wife opened the door with a smile on her face and wonderful smells coming from the kitchen. She shared that they were expecting company for the Holiday and she was so excited and up, I thought I was in the twilight zone.  Most people in her prior spot are in very stressful crisis times and I don't see a smile very often, other than the ones that I can get, that represent hope that I will be able to help them save their home.

She was excited to see me and anxious to get her husband on the phone to talk to me about the house and how it was working out for them. There have been times when it takes weeks to even get someone to talk to me. Then once they do they mostly kick themselves for not doing it sooner. Sometimes our own fears stop us in the headlights and our fear forms a brick wall that we can't see or feel past. It stops us from saving ourselves.  It was then that I realized that this one family will have a better Holiday because the lender and I both had worked together to find a better solution for people who did nothing wrong and really didn't deserve to go through what they had. So it was a better day, better than some others and for that I am very thankful.

People ask me why I'm doing this and I can answer selfishly: well it does help me get listings (anyone on the inside knows that means that you get to advertise and pay for the equipment to do so) It also gives me people who might need to move and I can help with that as well, it may get me listings that are prime targets for investment buyers, but sometimes, like yesterday, it gives me the satisfaction to know that after all these years, what I'm doing makes a difference and it's all good. It's good to be able to love the job you do and appreciate that you can give back at the same time. I hope that your day finds some blessings that make you feel as satisfied as I did and do after yesterday's adventures on the real estate roads! I hope your day whatever day it is that you are reading this is one of THOSE days where it is a day better than others!
