Richmond Hill, Georgia stands out for the exceptional quality of Southern living and charm found here. Many take advantage of the great coastal location and marvel at the number of things that you can do outdoors. Spring is especially beautiful here and now that the flowers have begun to spring up and the trees have taken to leaf, it’s time to go outside and connect with the nature so abundant in our area.Interpretive Trail in Richmond Hill

One great outing can be found at the Green Creek Interpretive Trail Back in the day (the 1920’s), Henry Ford ordered his work crews to dig the creek to aid in the drainage of lands he purposed for forestry and farming. Today, Instead of a swamp or wood, you’ll find an abundance of birds and wildlife that have adapted to the area taking advantage of all the dirt mounds left behind by the workers.

By 2000, Bryan County and Pembroke joined hands to conserve approximately 30,000 acres of natural open land and a 25 acre wetlands adjacent to the larger parcel.  That land forms the first phase of the Green Creek Interpretive Trail.  Today it provides access to viewpoints of the county’s permanently conserved wetlands.

Today, The Green Creek Interpretive Trail provides visitors a unique view into the wetlands and its protected ecosystem.  Here you can find crocodiles, alligators, snakes, frogs, turtles and flora unique to the wetlands, like water lilies.  Birds are found here in abundance and both young and old will find themselves mesmerized by the intricate life system found in and around Green Creek.

Best of all, the interpretive trail connects with the Coastal Georgia Greenway trail and other trails all along Highway 144, each of which adds to the environmental experience that delights everyone who treks here.  If you need something out of the ordinary to do that celebrates the best of life in Richmond Hill, spend the day outdoors and enjoy the Spring freshness all around you at the Green Creek Interpretive trail.

Tammy, what a wonderful thing/place to have access to. I'm a big outdoors person and this would be a regular destination for me.
