Heber , uninc. town, CDP (2000 pop. 2,988), Imperial co., S Calif., 4 mi/6.4 km SE of El Centro, in irrigated Imperial Valley, 6 mi/9.7 km N of Mex. border; 32°44'N 115°31'W. Vegetables, tomatoes, sugar beets, melons, dates, corn, wheat, alfalfa; cotton; cattle, sheep.

During the last 5 years, Heber's population has more than doubled as it became a hotbed of home building along with the recent addition in 2006 of the Imperial Valley Mall which is only a short drive away from downtown Heber. 

National and regional homebuilders came to Heber, CA to mark their territory as new home sales exploded.  Builders such as Centex Homes, DR Horton, and Pacific Century Homes built complete neighborhoods and communitites within this agricultural center. 

Billed as a suburb of El Centro, the town of Heber boasts a quiet and tranquil surrounding, its own Elementary School District, as well as a host of businesses and Utility District. 

Recent debate (Oct 2007) as whether the town of Heber will be annexed into the City of El Centro or if Calexico is willing to pull it into their spheres of influence have yet to be determined.
