17 Comments on Have you been thinking of getting a pet ? Why don't you rescue one of the pets at the shelters?
Hi Gita! What a great suggestion. My dog Stryker was rescued from a shelter one day before she would have been put down. A friend of ours rescued her, fattened her up a bit and then offered her to us. We grabbed her, loved her, and put her in training. Today she is a certifed Wilderness search dog. If you are lost, she will find you.
Carol, Thanks for the information. I hope people will read your comments and be inspired to rescue a dog.
Oh, Gita, I really wish more people would adopt from shelters and rescues! One of mine is a "shelter dog" and he is simply amazing! All he needed was a good home and love and what he gives back? Immeasurable!
everyone needs a pet. :) they make you happier, healthier and live a better longer life.
Gita, I really like that you provided good links and contact information for this local resource in your community. So many people would rather adopt/save an animal from a shelter or humane society than buy one. Thank you for making this information available to the people in your neighborhood.
Leesa, I saw the picture of your shelter dog. She is adorable.
Tammy, I have read that people who have pets live longer.
Mona, Thank you.
Nothing like a pet Gita...they are always happy to see you...i rescued mine from a shelter where he had been for 6 months...a great big Maine Coon cat!
From working with the senior citizens in my business I really believe that a rescue pet is a great addition to their lives.
Ginny, You have an adorable pet.
Outstanding post, Gita. Rescued pets can improve the quality of life for the new owners. An easy way to find a new best friend.
