I love you signLast night we went to my team leader’s house for a Christmas party.  We were having a good time, enjoying the food and the company of each other and our families.  It was getting late and I looked across the room at Little One.  She used the American Sign Language alphabet to say to me, “I’m tired.  Can we leave?

My first thought was, “She knows sign language?!”

My second thought was, “She assumes I know sign language?”

I was totally floored!  She said they learned it in class and she and a friend have been using it like a secret code since no one else seemed to take much interest.  I’m impressed that she’s retained it so well.  I’m pleased that these people I live with throw me enough curveballs to keep me guessing about them.  I love my family!

Then today I wrote a post about a local college girl who has gone missing.  I feel for her family and I hope they have her home safe as soon as possible.  I want to write a happy follow-up to that post.  She is someone else’s Little One.

Checking my stats I see today is the first day my outside blog has ever out-preformed my AR blog.  I hate that it’s for a reason like this, but everyone is looking for information on Leah.  I’m glad they're reading, the more people looking for her the better.

I realize that I am separating how I write for each place, compartmentalizing.  My Real Estate Shows lust of course goes directly to them.  I now have Mothers Fighting For Others for my Momma Bear instincts, wanting the world to be a better place.  MySpace lets me be as loony as I care to be.  The Scoop is about HOME and AR has become the place where I talk to other agents.  Well, one of the places.  And then there are more.

It could be writing all in one place, but I think this works.  I think I can still surprise myself with the different things I have to say.  It’s good to keep yourself guessing too, isn't it?

Please say a prayer for Leah and her family, OK?

When I was in 4th grad I taught myself sign language out of the back of the book. I have used it in similar circumstances on many of occassion.

Now I know where you've been :)  How hard is it to divide your time among the other blogs?  I've got 2 that I'm working on outside of the rain and I'm having a difficult time deciding where to post what, and whether to duplicate any of the content.  Any words of wisdom?

Lisa - I don't get to write for any of them as much as I want.  I'd like to write more for ALL of them, but I have work and a family ... and my mind wanders and I let it, because it brings back cool stuff.  I was duplicating a little content between AR and my outside blog, then I realized I'd rather lead locals to my outside blog.  Probably shouldn't say this here, but why lead people to a place where there are so many other agents to choose from?  Plus AR is kind of distracting with ads and lots of different places to go.  I'm mostly talking to other AR members here now and locals on my own blog.

Monika - I do, too.  Seeing her Mom and sister crying for her on the news tore me up.  I can't imagine being in their places.

Rebecca - I used to have a little stack of sign language books, but I lent them to someone at church and they disappeared.  I should get new ones for Little One.  She's picked it up so quickly and she's faster than I can read!  (I need practice.)

My great grandmother was deaf and my grandmother knew how to sign and I wish now that I had learned. Maybe I can try and learn. I guess it's never to late.

Our outside blog has started to out place AR too. Pretty cool if you ask me. LOL

Sign language, like the spanish language has been learned to the extent of asking where the beer and where the bathroom is.  (I speak for myself)

What a cute story.  You never know, she might come in handy as an interpreter if you ever have a hearing-impaired client.  :-D

Hi Sarah:  This story sharing with us Little One's latest feat just shows us one more example of what wonderful kids you have.  From what you have shared with us about both Little One and Tall One... they both seem like such very special chilren/girls/young women.  You are truly blessed.

And, because my own daughter Robin is 35 years old, and her little-girlhood times are so far in the past... I so much enjoy the sharing that you do with us of some of the fun and interesting things you do with your girls.  Thank you for that.

Regarding the college girl who is missing... perhaps your post, and your continued posting about it in your local outside blog will focus additional attention on her plight, and hopefully speed her return.  You have a lot on your plate... personal and family stuff, real estate stuff, blogging stuff... and, oh yes, being the goddess that you are.  Such pressure.  Take care... be well... and make sure you take some time for Sarah, too.

Karen Anne - The girls are easy to talk about, I love spending time with them.  The search still continues for Leah.  Her employers are offering a $10,000 reward.  Local police are checking through abandoned buildings in the area -- there are a lot, sadly.  I was hoping to wake to good news

Bob - Nah, I'm not.  It's actually better because when I want to write about "this", it goes "there".

Gregory - I need to get that child some books!

Chris - So basically you could survive anywhere.  Cool.

Jay - Never too late!  Learn!  Very cool when something you've worked on is doing well, isn't it?

Jeff - No worries, I like writing.  I feel better when I write, so it's nearly therapy.  ;o)

Oh Sarah, I just read the article on Leah.  She and her family will be in my prayers.  I can't imagine anything more horrible than to have your child missing.

I was just thinking this morning, as I posted something that is not my style on Active Rain, that I need another place to post things of that nature.  I've long contemplated a personal, very personal blog.  Maybe the time has come.

Hey:  Tell Little One that Grandma knew what the illustration to your post meant.  That's the sum total of my sign language skills.

Love,  Mom

Hi Sarah- When I was growing up, I had a foster sister that was deaf. I learned sign language before I was in kindergarden, and used it until my foster sister had reached legal age and no longer lived with us. I had used it a little over the years, but almost fell out of my chair when my second grader was in a holiday concert and the entire class not only sang the songs, but signed them as well. It's a great language to know, especially since you never know when you will encounter a situation that it's needed.
