Moving With Pets

Pets are a big part of many families, and moving can be just as stressful on them as it is on their human counterparts.

On moving day, be sure to plan ahead and have your pet stay with trusted friends, or a kennel with strong references so that all the hustle and bustle doesn't distress them - and also relieves you from worrying about escapes. Also be sure to update their collars with current contact info in the event he or she decides to go run off.

Routine is important before, during, and after the move. If your dog or cat is used to eating and going outside at certain times of day, keep them consistent to keep stress to a minimum.

Diet is also a key to staying consistent with your pet during moving and unpacking. If he or she is on a specific diet, stock up before the move on their favorite foods to eliminate any problems acquiring it at your new residence.

If you're moving a long distance with your pet, be sure to stock up on food, blankets, water, and take stops every so often to let him or her get some exercise.

As a member of your family, your pets will have similar emotions during moving. Following these guidelines will help reduce the stress on your pet, and make for a very happy transition.
