And "Mia" makes 5! (A dogs' tale)

I recently shared the story of how "Marley" came to be a part of our family.  That was back in 1995, and Marley reigned 'supreme' until "Polonius" (or "Pelly" as we call him) came along in 1998.  We got him as a puppy and he is the only member of our canine family who was 'planned'!

Pelly is a Bichon Frise and, as much as I love all my dog 'children', he is the closest to my heart.  He is loving and kind.  He loves other dogs and especially enjoys meeting new 'friends' at the 'dog park' near our home.

                                                          Polonius

In July of 2003, my daughter Aimee adopted a Pomeranian named "Pearl" from our local shelter.  Aimee had moved back home for a short time while she made a career change and was attending the Fashion Institute in Manhattan (FIT).  Because she already had a Pomeranian (Astaire) who was raised in our household with Marley and Polonius, and was actively looking for an apartment in the city, Aimee wanted to adopt a 'companion' for Astaire so he would not be alone when they moved.

Pearl

So, Pearl came to live with us and joined the 'mix'.  Since I knew that Pearl would be moving out in a short amount of time, I tried not to 'bond' with her, but Pearl decided differently.  She followed me everywhere and slept with the other dogs in my room each night.  When my daughter finally found an apartment and it came time for Pearl to leave, she was already so attached to me, that Aimee did not want to move her out and upset her (Pearl had a very traumatic 'childhood'...she was rescued from a home where the owners kept her caged in a basement.  You have to wonder why they ever got her in the first place...), so Pearl became our 3rd dog.

In 2004, Aimee moved to Florida because she was offered a buying position on a Cruise ship.  While she was living there, she learned of a Pomeranian who was found running on the highway and almost put to sleep twice.  She went to meet the dog, and fell in love with him.  He was older - the rescue people told her he was 7 or 8, and he was deaf.  She took him home and named him "Bogart".

As it happened, Aimee was offered a position for more money in Manhattan in 2005, and since she wasn't all that fond of living in Florida, she accepted the job and moved back to NY.  She and the 2 dogs moved home while she searched for an apartment.  A month later she found a place and she and Astaire and Bogart moved out.  The only problem is that Bogart hated the apartment and would bark all day and all night.  We feared that she would be asked to leave, and since it is not easy to find a large space that is affordable in the city, we said that Bogart could come and live with us.

When he first came to live with us, Bogart was grumpy and nasty.  As you can see in the picture above, he has turned out to be a real sweetheart!  I could just eat him up!

And now, as of 2 weeks ago, we have one more...Mia.  She is a Pomeranian approximately 5 years of age.  Aimee 'rescued' her (I know...Aimee has been forbidden to rescue any more dogs!!) and took her to live in her apartment.  The problem is that Mia and Astaire did not get along...at all!  So, here she is...and if we get one more dog in this house, I do believe that we are going to need a 'kennel license'!!

Little "Miss Mia" (all 4 lbs of her!)

The End (??????)!

Ohmygod, Bogart is just about the cutest dog I have ever seen!  I want one!  See I'm such a sucker for cute pets but I have to enforce my own "no new pets policy"!

p.s.  I really can't get over that you have grown children, you and Aimee look like sisters.

Bogart is cute.  I never thought I liked Pomeranians...... Mia is cute too.. they're all cute.  Bichon's are a sweet breed.  They remind me of stuffed animals because they are so cuddley.

I'm partial to Poodles, myself!  Are these the babies that make all that noise when I try to tell you my Oprah stories?

Gina....Couldn't you just eat him up?!!  The thing I love about Pomeranians - other than the obvious 'teddy bear' cuddly quality - is that they actually 'smile' when they are happy!  And thanks for the compliment referencing my blessed 'genes' (and yes, my picture on AR is recent - taken in early June of 2006)!  People always think that my girls and I are sisters!  I hated looking so young when I was in my 20's because I always got "proofed" when I went out with friends.  Now I'm not complaining anymore!

Maureen....They are all so sweet.  I guess you can tell that I have a 'thing' for fluffy dogs?

Marci....Yes - those little darlin's are the ones in the background yip-yappin' away!
