So yes, you may assume I am 'new' to being licensed, but have years of experience as a real estate paralegal so that is an advantage (I think!), not to mention many years in the business world as a controller, business owner, blah, blah, blah.

When I got my NC license early in 2007, I went straight into the 90-hours of post-licensing classes and became a BROKER/Realtor rather than having the dreaded "P" for provisional on my license for 3 years! Following completion of the 90-hours I signed on with Keller Williams because of their educational opportunities.

Beyond the extensive educational opportunities available at KW, when it gets down to IMPLEMENTING your plan and your branding and your education, and the challenges that are inherent in that transition, where in the heck do you find someone who wants not only to protect you and the company where you hang your license, but most importantly protect the potential customers out there?

Just curious.... If you would take my poll on where you found a wonderful mentor, I would be most appreciative! Was marriage involved? Your first born child?

I would assume that since KW has profit sharing, the person getting part of your profits would be a good place to start for a mentor.  Make them earn that money.  Some people say, "Well, I just walked into an office and joined."  That means the office manager or lead recruiter, whatever you call them in your area, is making the profit off of you, and you should ask them to set you up with a mentor if they aren't practicing themselves.  Other than that, when I first got into the business 8 years ago, my broker matched me up with someone where are personalities would mesh ok, and the broker paid her out of the broker's split so there was nothing out of my pocket to have a mentor.

Susie ~ I say find your mentor anywhere you see someone doing what you want to be doing! Picking a specialty that you like working helps that along, I believe. If you have a good office, and culture, agents should be willing to share and help. If not- go find an office that has a culture built around helping the new agents succeed!

Charlie, I'll keep you posted.

Donna, we have a good office culture, but our BICs have their own businesses along with the BIC title, so they are busy... While I have confidence in myself and am doing my business set-up/ground work/classes this first year, I've noticed that concerns for the customers, in MY opinion, is not always first and foremost.  But that is only my opinion!

Brian - - ROGER!  I hear you loud and clear!

THANK YOU!

Susie,  I would think you could find someone inside your Keller Williams office; that would certainly be the most convenient! Congrats on your accomplishments to date!
