I got an email from McAfee - the antivirus protection software company - on Tuesday. They told me that my virus protection had expired.

Normally this would be cause for concern. Who wants to be without spyware and virus protection for their computer?

However, the date of the expiration was 04-09-07. That's 5 years ago!

They tell me my PC is at risk, but did it really need to take them 5 years to show their concern? Have I been waiting all this time for them to contact so I could renew?

There's a good reason that my service expired 5 years ago. I went with another company. Actually, I'm on my 6th virus protection program since then. I don't even remember having them at all - maybe it was a trial version.

Follow-up is good, but it certainly needs to be timely - especially in the technology area where things are changing so rapidly anyway.

Anne,

It's a veiled attempt at making a sale, and it doesn't fly. :)

Hi Steve - I think they're employing some of the same people who handle short sales for the banks.

Really, it took them that long.  Mcfee is out of touch, that seems hard to believe.  Your notification maybe a scam or a virus, no?

Yeah there is a reason these companies are struggling and things like this are only part of the reason.

Hi Steve, companies are desparate, they need to generate business. I received a call today

from a past "dentist" I was past due for a cleaning. Gee , I left them because  I did not like

the change in the quality of service. By the way I love my new dentist.

Dee,

It could be. Looks legit, but not interested either way. :)

Todd,

Turnover, poor service, lack of training, and poor management are some of the many reasons companies struggle. :)
