Towards the end of March, I blogged about a local 3v3 Basketball Tournament called Hoopfest 2012. This was an event put on by KLife of North Dallas at the Dr Pepper Arena/Star Center in Frisco Texas.
Since this was a first year event, there were bound to be a few hiccups. Overall, I think it was very successful and can assure you it will be a much larger event next year.
A few of my buddies decided to jump in on the action and played in the 30+ league (that way I dont have to argue with the young guys). Also, since it was local, our 8th grade boys played. The team consisted of my son and 3 of his teammates.
Below are a few photos from the day - and it was a B.E.A.U.T.I.F.U.L. day out today. 80 degrees, sunny, and not a lot of wind. If you are playing outdoors, this is the weather you hope for.
Here is my son (#9 in the black jersey), playing some tight defense to not let this boy run past him.
You'll see in the next photo, that the boy does actually get past him, but he recovers nicely with a block.
The boys played very well considering this was their first 3v3 tournament.
In the very first game, they were tied 20-20 and were forced to an overtime decision.
Due to time restrictions, the overtime rules were 'first basket wins'. Ultimately, they lost the first game.
The Tigers learned from their mistakes and played tough going forward. They won the next 2 games by a landslide and were
Their goal was to make it to the FINALS which is played Indoors, on the Texas Legends basketball court. The Semi finals game was a little rough for our guys. We lost a player and the opposing team was a little aggressive. Unfortunately, we did not match the intensity and ended up losing 10-13 when the 20 minute time limit was reached.fighting back to the Championship game.
Overall, they had a GREAT time and I would recommend this event to anyone in the Frisco Texas area.
As for the adults... we too lost the Semi finals game 11-13. We had a lot of good looks, but just could not complete the shots. So, we didn't get to play indoors either. :-( Our final record was 3-2 for the day. We will get them next year!
