BBCNEWS:

The two biggest teachers' unions have voted for strikes which could hit schools across the UK this summer and autumn.

The National Union of Teachers voted for more strikes co-ordinated with other unions protesting against cuts to public sector pensions.

Earlier, the NASUWT backed industrial action, including strikes, over what it said were threats to state education.

The government says strikes benefit no-one and damage children's education.

The NUT says it will try to avoid taking action in the summer exam season.

Teachers' unions took part in two national strikes with other public sector workers over pensions last year, in late June and November.

The language of this teachers' union conference sounded like people feeling under threat.

There was talk of "predators" from the private sector, the profession faced "intimidation and lies" and there were accusations of "vicious and unjustified assault".

How long before we see the same here in America.  How about we just end public education?  Most of the money goes to labor and infrastructure, not the children.  Private schools have clearly shown they can deliver.  Guess we will go through years of labor strife and complaints from the unions.  Get ready.

Dale -- You make some good points. I don't think we will see the end to public education, but here in Arizona we have a very healthy charter school system and many people home-school their children. The effectiveness of the alternatives to public schooling is being proven without any doubt.

The biggest problem that I see with public schools is that they are BRIBED by favors from the left to indoctrinate our children.

John, think of education as a product.  Would you continue to buy a defective or nonworking product from the same company year after year.  Of course not, education should be looked at the same way.  Our educational system continues to push for more funds but most is not getting to the students.  We can do more with less going private.

How long? We already saw it in Wisconsin. And the teachers unions are trying to hide the results from the public (how much money is being saved, improved performance, etc). Information that is published every year on their website has not been published since the unions got smacked by Gov Walker.

Than, I need to do some research on that, but it is par for the course, kinda like not having a budget by the Dems even though it is required by the constitution.
