Okay! I just tried it! It is SUPER easy. I just did the basics.... auto fix, shadows, added ©JoniStaples, and drop shadow frame. It was just like Picnik. I am THRILLED!!!

PicMonkey Set to Step In When Picnik Goes Dark

PicMonkey - Your photo on awesome juice.

For those of us who are lamenting the pending loss of one of the best image editing sites on the planet, Picnik.com, there is another possible replacement looming on the horizon.

While lurking in one of my favorite Facebook groups tonight (Tech Support Group For Real Estate Agents), I was made aware of a new image editing site that is getting ready to launch soon, called PicMonkey. It's unclear if the people behind the site are former Picnik employees or just die-hard fans who won't take the loss of their favorite image editor lying down, but no matter who it is we can't wait to see what they come up with.

The site is not live yet, but you can go to PicMonkey.com and sign up to be alerted when it does go live. They also have a Facebook page which looks to be brand spanking new, with only 164 fans at this writing, but there are already people there making suggestions for having their favorite editing effects and tools added to the fledgling site when it comes online. One of the page admin's comments made on February 8th indicates that, while there is no firm launch date, they are shooting for "next month", which would mean a March launch, good news for you Picnik fanatics who just can't get the hang of Picasa or don't hang out on Google+ much.

Anyways, if you're interested in seeing what this new site might offer (like I am!), then head over to the PicMonkey site, sign up and sit back and wait for the big reveal! Until then, Picnik is still in business until April 19th, so I'm still picniking my litle fingers off while I can!

Update: As of today, March 9th, Picmonkey is live! Many of the great features of Picnik are there, plus some new ones, but not all of the best features have been added yet (like collages). The service is free right now, but some of the features are premium ones. You can give them your email address to sign up for the "Royale" membership and they will send you a discount off the membership fee when it becomes available.
