On March 27, 2012, U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Shaun Donovan and U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric K. Shinseki announced today that HUD will provide $72.6 million to public housing agencies in all 50 states and the District of Columbia to supply permanent housing for over 10,000 homeless veterans. It is part of the Obama Administration’s commitment to end Veteran long term homelessness by 2015.

Already, VA Medical Centers (VAMC) provide supportive services and case management to eligible homeless veterans across the U.S., Guam and Puerto Rico. VAMCs refer homeless veterans to public housing agencies for vouchers, according to Josh Taylor of www.va.gov Donna White of www.hud.gov HUD No. 12-063.

It appears that HUD & VA rental assistance will help many homeless veterans to find and live in habitable housing. There are many vacant homes can be filled by veterans, and it will be the best humanitarian act by the HUD & VA to assist homeless Veterans. We need to take care of our own Veterans.
