Lost data in real estate is one item that sends blood pressure soaring. This is the time of year to back up data and clean files to storage. Portable thumb drive devise are the best thing since slice bread for storing data. The more you practice backing up the more proficient you become at both organizing and retrieving data. With software like Top-producer everything is going web-based. I still fell more comfortable with the original tucked away in the basement. As technology progress there will be better ways but probably never replace the paper trail. Please respond with ideas and pains in this difficult task.

10 Comments on Lost Data in Real Estate

Good idea. I know that there are some affordable back-up companies that actually do it on-line and you don't have to buy an additional hard drive...

External hard drives have become real cheap, and make a good backup device. Don't store them next to your computer however.

Bonner, we should have this tattooed on our foreheads. It should be part of everyone's weekly process. It is the only safe way. Thanks for the reminder! Happy Holidays!

Bonner,

I had my techie put in our own server with all the whistles and bells - including an almost fool-proof back-up system.  And he gave me a really good price.  Now I can access the server from wherever I am and get files, data, etc.  For e-mail, try this:  I back up all e-mails (4 addresses) by having them copied to my g-mail account.

Happy holidays!

I have an external hard drive but it always seems buggy. I think I am going to look into this more in 2008 and try to get something more automated. good post.

External hard are more expensive where as the the thumb drives at 2mb have ample space to hold in formation including pictures. I personally have a seperate thumb drive that I store pictures on when down loading from the camera. This can be added to the from the thumb drive.

The main thing is to Back Up the data with a system that works for you. This helps keep your computer clean for the new year.
