This one really knocks me over! How DARE Washington meddle with states rights - especially when those states are doing something POSITIVE for the environment! This entire situation with the EPA ruling against California makes me really angry!!!! I am NOT an Arnold fan, but this time the governor of California is doing something that needs to be done - leading the way to cut emissions! And the EPA dares say that they cannot put these rules into effect -

I am extremely pleased that our own Governor Crist is not only following the wave and getting Florida in line with the other states that agree with California, but also joining Governor Schwarzenegger to bring legal action against the Bush administration for its role in this entire mess!!!!

Bush is always behind big business and never out there for the environment - he does what he absolutely has to when he can no longer get around it! That is why the EPA and the Bush administration have come up with this lame plan on emissions! Why not wait until the 22nd century to implement it?!?!?! I am sure Bush would if he could!

GO SCHWARZENEGGER!!!! IT IS WAY PAST TIME TO STAND UP TO THIS ADMINISTRATION!!!

YES, GREEN AND PROUD!!!

Amen and pass the salt! Big government is just trying to tax us to death by trying to control all the energy. I still want a car that runs on the sun, but how are they going to tax sunlight?

Barbara-Jo & Bill-

Yay! I'd not yet heard that FL is joining the fight against this atrocity. I read grist.org's blogs... I'm truly appalled that the EPA is against improving automotive efficiency and regulations. The CAFE standards are below what CA's proposed. I also read this great post about fuel efficiency: http://gristmill.grist.org/story/2007/12/19/152610/35Give it a quick read. It's about how trading your gas hog SUV for a slightly more efficient SUV will make a significant impact on your (fuel) consumption and emissions.

I'm already in a Civic... and I'm probably going with a Hybrid next. Go Green!

B&BJ before you decide on a hybrid you'd better check the environmental fall out that results from mining the nickle and then making the batteries.  Nickel is mined in Canada.  The area surrounding the mine is an environmental disaster.  Then the nickel (nickle) is shipped to China for processing, then to Japan to make the batteries, then to the US or elsewhere.  Statistically  you are better off driving a Hummer as you would have to drive a Prius 60 months to erase the environmental impact by the gas saved.

I had heard the EPA will not give the necessary waiver to California.  In the past 40 years the EPA has granted 60 waivers for various things, and not denied one, until now, and this one happens to be an environmental benefit.  But lets not forget, the EPA also told everyone in NYC the air was free of asbestos after 9/11.  I think this is a concerted effort to, if not kill us all, at least make us all sick so the healthcare corporations can make lots of money on collecting our premiums then denying our claims.
