Cyber MondayAdmit it -- you procrastinated this year!  You promised yourself that this year would be different... you'd get your holiday shopping done early.  However, life got in the way.  Instead of braving Black Friday, you spent the day with your family eating Thanksgiving turkey leftovers and watching t.v. marathons.  Cyber-Monday came and went and you missed all the internet deals and free shipping offers.

It's the Friday before Christmas -- December 21st and this is your last chance.  The final shopping weekend.  Yes, the stores will be crowded, but you've got no other choice.

Northern Virginia Shopping Malls

Where to get all the best holiday gifts?

Here's a list of the biggest shopping malls in Northern Virginia (all information comes from the just published Washington Business Journal Book of Lists 2008):

  • Tysons Corner Center -- the "Mother of All Malls" in Northern Virginia and one of the biggest shopping malls in the country with over 2.1 million square feet of retail space and 300 stores.  Located at 1961 Chain Bridge Road, McLean, VA 22102

  • Potomac Mills --  located in Woodbridge, VA this mall contains 220 stores, many of them outlets.  Conveniently located at 2700 Potomac Mills Circle, just off of Interstate 95.

  • Fair Oaks Mall -- with over 1.6 million square feet of space this mega-mall fulfills all your shopping needs.  Stop by 11750 Fair Oaks, Fairfax, VA 22033

  • Springfield Mall -- another large mall with tons of stores for your last minute holiday shopping.  Located at 6500 Springfield Mall, Springfield, VA 22150

  • Dulles Town Center -- 185 stores in a town center setting is the premiere shopping spot for Loudoun County residents.  Located at 21100 Dulles Town Circle, Sterling, VA 20166.  Stop here before picking up your out of town guests at Dulles Airport.

  • Tysons Galleria -- upscale shopping in McLean/Tysons Corner.  120 stores and eateries that you might not find elsewhere.  Located at 2001 International Drive, McLean, VA  22101

  • Fashion Centre at Pentagon City -- get your picture with Santa Claus in the food court at this ever-popular Arlington, VA shopping mall.  With 175 stores, you are sure to find all the gifts for those stockings.  Located at 1100 S. Hayes Street, Arlington, VA  22202.

Brian-OK, I'll admit it. I've procrastinated in a huge way. I feel like crumb because I didn't even get Christmas Cards out.  Now that's horrible.  I have been trying to call everybody and give them a personal Holiday Wish.  So here's to you.  Happy Holidays my friend!

I was at Penn Camera and Sports Authority at Tysons today.  Not bad.

Ah some of them may be the biggest but not all of them are equal in what you can find.  You can still order on line and have it shipped in time for Christmas.  Save the dings in your car and the headache of grouch people :-)  Or do like I did and leave the country!

Brian - I can not be done! Thanks for the list. I am heading out today to just be a shopper. Pick up a few balls for two young boys, a dora the explorer something for a young lady, and then all sorts of little things for the wifes stocking. She does so love to unwrap gifts. (It was a big hit one year, I gave her individually wrapped playing cards).

Did you ever notice that a carb free Christmas is a bit barren? No cookies or candies or hot chocolate. I think the purpose is to reach Dec 26th and not realize you missed the holiday cheer.

People hate me.  I was 90% done before Thanksgiving!  (I always buy most of gifts while on vacation -When you spending 3 weeks in Europe made THAT easy).

Of course that last 10% lasted too long.  But I am DONE.  Wrapped and ready to relax!

JULIE:  Happy Holidays!  There are so many procrastinators out there, so don't feel bad.  Will you be at the malls this weekend?

LENN:  I was over at Tyson Galleria on Wednesday, though to meet a friend and lender for lunch -- not for shopping.  I'll avoid the malls this weekend.

NANCY:  The outlets at Leesburg are great, but they don't make the biggest shopping center list.  With 110 stores and 465,000 square feet of retail, Leesburg Corner Premium Outlets is less than a third of the size of Potomac Mills and about 40% smaller than Fashion Centre at Pentagon City.  Thanks for your comment.

No malls this weekend thank goodness.  Look at James Downing.  Now he's got the right idea.  WOW!  Have a wonderful weekend.

CINDY:  Very true.  That's why I provided the links to the malls so that people can see what stores are there before they head out in their cars.  Have a great holiday vacation!

SUZANNE:  Thanks for your comment.  We like to spread our shopping throughout the year and always pick up interesting gifts for people and keep them in our "gift drawer."  That limits our actual shopping during the season.

Brian,  Each year Arthur and I visit "one of the above" to window shop and see the decorations.  This year we went to Fair Oaks.  It was a surprise to see two Macy's stores in the same mall,  Karen

KAREN:  Thanks for stopping by.  I haven't done much shopping at Fair Oaks mall -- most times I go to Pentagon City or Tysons.  Two Macy's stores in the same mall is certainly odd.

KATERINA:  You'd be surprised how many hits my blog has gotten in the past few days from people looking for the malls.  We tend to buy gifts all year long as well in order to avoid the December rush.
