Need a Job in Information Technology? Relocate to Northern Virginia

While the Northern Virginia and D.C. markets have slowed alongside much of the country's real estate markets, the shining star of Northern Virginia has been the continued phenomenal job growth. More than 40,000 new jobs are expected to be created in Northern Virginia in 2008.

The Greater Washington area has the most educated populace in the country, Education and Jobs in Northern Virginia thus making it home to many Information Technology (IT) companies. Northern Virginia boasts 22 of the region's 25 largest IT employers. If you work in the IT field and you're considering a move, Northern Virginia may be the right choice. There's plenty of large companies with headquarters or large offices in the area and many of them are hiring. If you already work for one of these information technology giants, chances are high that you'll be transferred to Northern Virginia to help support some of the large federal government contracts that these companies often service.

JASON: Yes, the job market has been great in the D.C. and Northern Virginia area for quite some time. With the federal government, government contractors, high tech companies, and the military, there seems to be a continual supply of good high-paying jobs. We have the lowest unemployment rate of any major metropolitan area in the country.

Brian- WOW, I had no idea about how powerful the tech sector was in D.C. We conjure up nothing but politicians! Katerina

I used to live next door to CACI in Avalon Washington Towers. I always thought it would be so cool to work there because I could get up at 8:45 and still be at work by 9am! And none of that DC area traffic.

KATERINA: Yes, the tech sector is huge in the D.C. area. When AOL first started in Northern Virginia, that spurned many other tech companies to come here as well. The backbone of the internet was established in Fairfax County with companies like UUNET headquartered there. I once heard that something like 75% of the world's internet traffic was routed through Northern Virginia! With the government and defense industries, there is a large tech sector to support all the government and defense contracts. Lots of tech companies, aerospace, etc.

TCHAKA: That's one of the nice things about some areas of Northern Virginia, like Ballston, Rosslyn, Old Town Alexandria, or condos in Tysons Corner or Reston Town Center. Walking to work!

It will be htis job market that will get Northern Virginia out of the slump.
