Spring - Daffodil Festival -- Tacoma and Pierce County Washington.
This weekend brings one of the great signs of spring to the Pierce County area, as the Daffodil Festival has its 79th annual Grand Floral Parade in Tacoma. Later that day, the floats, bands, and other participants will be moving through the towns of Puyallup, Sumner and Orting for parade times there as well. There are a total of 158 registered participants this year, though not all will be participating in all four of the parades.
The Daffodil Festival began in 1933 as a tribute to the Puyallup Valley Flower industry.
In addition to the parade on Saturday, there is the Daffodil Court -- composed this year of Queen Sara Karamoko and 24 princesses. The Court spends time in the community building relations with various businesses, as well as taking part in many non-profit activities which encourage others to reach out for their dreams.
For those who cannot make the Grand Parade this Saturday, there is a junior parade on April 21st, and a Marine (boat) parade on April 22.
This does not include the multiple fun runs, or the Spring Fair, at Puyallup, April 19-22.
