I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! We are all becoming increasingly environmentally conscious, so if you have a real Christmas tree give a gift to the environment and recycle it.

The SCA's Planet Manhasset committee, in conjunction with Hefferin Tree Service and the Congregational Church of Manhasset has invited all Manhasset residents to do their part for the environment and recycle their Christmas trees. They are offering this service free of charge. Recycling the Trees help in diverting them from going to already over crowded landfills.

Manhasset residents may bring their tree free of any decoration, including garland and tinsel, to the lower parking lot of the Congregational Church on Saturday, January 5, 2008 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Volunteers will be available to help unload the trees and Hefferin Tree Service will chop them into wood chips. Bring a strong bag if you would like to take some home for mulch.

I encourage all Manhasset residents with Christmas trees to take advantage of this service. If you live in another community, try and find a similar service in your area.
