Christmas Traditions

With the Christmas Holiday literally hours away i thought it might be interesting to compare some Christmas Traditions in our families. (And if you are into other Holidays at this time of year those would be great too... families are made of traditions).

Several years ago my daughter introduced me into one that I had never seen and is interesting. She was living and working in Ireland. One of the young women she was friends with invited her home for Christmas. The family had the usual decorations including a manger scene. However the scene did not include the three Wise Men (Kings). rather they were in one of the children's bedrooms. During the days leading up to Christmas they (the Wise Men) moved from room to room until, finally on Christmas Eve they finished their journey and ended up by the manger.

Anyone else have one to share?

When I grew up we also had a manger with Mary, Joseph, sheperds, a donkey, ox and sheep. On Christmas Eve my mom would add a Jesus baby figurine.

We like to go out in the biggest blizzard of the year and cut down our tree in a storm. Oh wait .. that was just this year. Maybe we can make it a tradition..

Merry xmas.

Perrin - What a neat story to share.  I like Sandy's story, too. I think I'm going to work this coming year on putting together a Nativity scene.  I've wanted one for quite awhile.  It seems like so many have forgotten the true meaning of Christmas.

Merry Christmas and happy holidays,

Geordie ... but what if the storm is after Christmas???... Of course I was an idiot and both Monday and Wed of last week went via Stevens to Seattle...FUN!

Meg, there are lots of different traditions and they don't need to be just around Christmas. We have been going to the same 4th of July party for 20+ years

Thanks for your comments!

We, as a family, open 2 presents on Christmas Eve and celebrate with a special supper.  After wishing eachother well, we all attend Midnight Mass at our Roman Catholic Church.  It is a candlelight Mass.

I can almost never make it up long enough to go to Mass at the local catholic church.... but when I do I really enjoy it!

One of my holiday traditions for the last 10 years is that my sister stays over after our Christmas Eve party and helps my husband and I finish wrapping presents.  We are usually up until 2:00 am getting ready for the kids in a few hours.

PS

I can't even imagine staying up unitl 2AM period...let alone wrapping presents...LOL
