I Lost My Pet - With a Happy Ending!

If you are a pet lover the four words, “I Lost My Pet” can be devastating.  Now imagine you are 1100 miles from your home and your pet is lost.

That is exactly what happened to me.  I was in the process of relocating from Dallas, TX back to the Chicago area.  While I was waiting for my worldly goods to be delivered, I was staying with my Dad.  One morning while I was in the shower, Frosty was  a four month American Eskimo puppy, decided to explore the neighborhood.  I was in a panic when I couldn’t find him.  It was one of the worst 24 hours segments of my life.

Fortunately he was wearing his name tag with my phone number on it.  In my efforts to find him, I made calls to the local animal hospitals, police department, fire department and animal shelter.  I was so hoping someone would find him.

The next morning, the door bell rang.  When I opened the door, there was a man standing there holding Frosty in his arms.  He said he had called the phone number, but it had been disconnected (remember I was in the process of moving).  He recognized the area code and then said he remembered seeing my car with the Texas license plates and both two and two together.

We can certainly spread the word faster now when one loses a pet, by using social media, but the best remedy is to have that little tag with the pet’s name, and owner’s phone number.

Kathy- I am so glad someone found your pet and had the good sense to put 2 + 2 together.  It's so hard when you're moving to remember which numbers you need to change or have forwarded.

So glad Frosty was returned unharmed.  That was great diligence on the finders part.

Kathy, it was before cell phones and you are right, that is why I have one number now.

Sue, I was so very happy!

Sheila, after that, I was much more diligent about letting him out in the yard.

when my daughter was in college she put MY phone number on her dog's tag.  You know.... Mom's not moving and she's keeping her phone number. :)

Kathy, thank God for a happy ending!  I am having a hard time reading some of these that don't have that. Frosty--what a darling name for that breed!
