New York's Finest NYPD

In the last two decades, New York City has seen an unprecedented reduction in crime. NYC now ranks as the nation's safest big city. Among the top ten most populous states in the U.S., New York ranks first - with less than half the number of crimes per 100,000 residents as Florida.

Mitchell - I have only been to New York City once in my life.  It was in May of 2009.  I was astonished to experience how friendly the people were there.  I had taken the train in from the airport at Newark, and was a tad overwhelmed by the experience of getting off the trains at the right times/stops.  There was this great guy that informed me when to get off at Penn Station, and instructed me on how to walk diagnally across the station to the proper corner, to make my way over to Macy's and to board the tour buses.  But nothing had prepared me for the totally awesome experience of Time Square.  I was at the front of the second story of the tour bus, and absolutely stood there in stunned silence.  I am certain the citizens of the city must come there often to perform primal scream therapy. . .A totally awesome place!

Hi Alexandra, I don't know about the Floridians but I've had a few New York clients that sold their coops and condos here and moved to Florida for a cheaper lifestyle. They have have all come back to NYC. Not because of crime but they thought they would save money because there is no state income tax in Florida. There are no high paying jobs either so big deal no income tax. They were too young to retire. Their only savings was on winter coats ,-)

Hi Roger, I agree. Fortunately there are no "Shoot first", "Stand your Ground", "Get away with Murder" laws in NY.

Hi Hannah, Yes a few smiled and waved at me while I was snapping them. Love our boys and gals in blue.

Hi Myrl, Thank you! Most New Yorkers are friendly and go out of their way to help starngers. We get a bad rap from the media. Yesterday there were a few Europen tourists on the subway. Reading the maps they were looking very confused. I asked where they were going? "Rockefeller Center" We were approaching 50th Street/Broadway I told them they should get out here and walk 2 blocks east. They didn't beleive me. I tried explaining walking is the best way to get east or west. Walking is not on the maps. They stayed on the train. I tried. LOL.

Mitchell, New York gave me a good impression many years ago during my visit. I do wonder why there are so many cops standing around the corner.

Hi Tony and Darcy, Thanks for stopping by. You have a great weekend too.

Hi Kwee, Believe it or not there are 6,000 less police officers now than there were in 2010.

Hi Mitch,

Great photo and even greater stats. This is something these men and women can be proud of. We have a lot of crime in our state but we unfortunately have an immigration problem and it is out of control. The police and deputies do the best they can with limited funds. Thanks for sharing such good news.
