Pet Friendly Peninsula Open Spaces
Pulgas Ridge Open Space Preserve, San Mateo Co
Along the spine of the Peninsula, between San Francisco to San Jose and beyond, we're blessed with abundant open space, one of the reasons for the high cost of housing in our area, and one of the many benefits of living here.

There are several close-in places that welcome dogs, so if you and your pet are in the need of exercise and fresh air, check out the Open Space Preserve web site to find areas that welcome your pet.

Pulgas Ridge Open Space Preserve, San Mateo Co

One of my favorite dog-friendly spots is Pulgas Ridge Open Space Preserve, located on Edmunds Drive just off Crestview and Edgewood Roads. It's easily accessed from Interstate 280 and the towns of San Carlos and Redwood City. Bring your water bottle, watch out for poison oak, and enjoy your exploration!

What great place for both humans and their dogs to exercise, get rest (humans) and recreation (dogs) plus the view is outstanding.

Lottie, The dogs will enjoy the great outdoors as much as we enjoy the views and being in nature away from our computers and all the "noise."

Lottie, what beautiful open spaces for owners to spend time with their pets. We have dog friendly areas but nothing like what I see in your photos. The local residents are so fortunate to have such great open spaces. Another benefit to living in the San Francisco area.

Emily, when I hike/jog here, I always come home feeling refreshed and peaceful. I bet you and your dog have your own friendly spots for R&R

Kathleen, when so many people live in such close proximity as we do in our areas, having close-in open space like this is essential. Easy to enjoy any time of the day, before work, on the way home, etc.

Nancy, we are fortunate, indeed. Our open space is one of the reasons it is costly to live here, but it adds a lot to our lives.

Lottie,  it's absolutely WONDERFUL to have open spaces to hike with your pets. I especially loved this sentence:

Bring your water bottle, watch out for poison oak, and enjoy your exploration!

James, I don't always have my camera with me when hiking, but hopefully I'll get some shots soon.

Gayle, because of all the wildlife surrounding us, many of our open space preserves are off-limits to pets. Pulgas Ridge, however, welcomes them and since it is so close to urban areas, it's put to good use by runners and hikers, both 2-legged and 4.
