A Dog Loving Real Estate Broker in Westchester County, New York

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner

This is Max my beloved Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.  He weighs about 25 lbs which is large for the breed and large for a lot of buildings throughout Westchester County that will allow dogs but have weight restrictions.  Some buildings will interview your dog as well as you to incure that your dog isn't a barker that will annoy neighbors. There are buildings available throughout Westchester County that will allow dogs, larger dogs are permitted in a limited number of buildings.  More buildings will allow pets, but not dogs.  Unfortunately not all dog lovers do the right thing in cleaning up after their pets or in general being courteous to their neighbors which makes it difficult for pet lovers who do the right thing.

Max is gorgeous.  I know when I thought about buying a breed, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is one I fell in love with... I adopted another mutt.

Being a dog owner is a responsibility.

Many rentals that allow pets require an extra deposit (a pet deposit), returnable when the tenant leaves and no damages are found.

Maureen, thanks, I think he is gorgeous too and the sweetest personality.

Rosario, pet deposits exist in Westchester County too.  I recently did a house rental and the owner didn't want to get involved with pet deposits and discussions as to what is damages related to the pet so he required a slightly higher rent with returnable deposit.

Hello Miriam,

In my rental units, I don't as about the weight of the dog, as much as the breed... my insurance guy informed me of the breeds that are in the 'high risk' category, and I inform prosective tenants that they may be responsible for not only renters insurance, but a dog rider for liability reasons.

I also raise the rent higher, as I have found that they (dogs) ultimately do more damage in a unit than not.  I don't 'interview' the dogs, as it really is all about the owner of the dog, and how they train thier dog.

Hi,

The dog lover that I am still thinks that owners have a right to interview your pet as well as you.  Dogs need to be good tenants and neighbors too.

Max is adorable.  Don't you just love his kind eyes.

Jeff I did not know about "high risk" breeds or dog riders, thanks for the information, good to know.

Renee, I love his kind eyes.
