Active Rain’s contests are too complicated for Participation

Ontario Real Estate Source

By Brian Madigan LL.B.

I was somewhat disappointed to find that a regular assessment and presentation which I have on a monthly basis did not qualify for points in an AR contest.

Why? Apparently not an independent assessment with my own commentary!

But, I might point out that the Toronto Real Estate Board itself has just adopted such a system. In fact, mine was copied completely by the Board.

Now, the Toronto Real Estate Board publishes a housing index which is identical to my ORES Index.

Seems strange however, that it was not quite “up to standard” here.

In any event, that was the end of my participation in all the contests.

Brian - They say Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and we both know there are some who mimic what others do ..... they see somting that they feel is a competitive edge or a better moustrap and mimic it for ther own use.

Brian - some of the contests are too complicated or simply not worth the time.  The recent pet contest wasn't to my liking.  However, many have good intentions.  Don't give up!

Hi Brian - I have reduced my participation in contests since early this year.  Many of them seem to have rules that are too complicated, require too much work for the points offered, or are insufficiently related to my understanding of the purpose of ActiveRain or my blog.

I have not compared your index to the one prepared by TREB and the other major boards.  However, I do remember that we had discussed the index at a committee meeting a couple of years ago.  Of course, our role was to recommend / not recommend that the index be funded by the board and was not related to the development of the index etc.
