Lost Dog and Cat Rescue Foundation is a wonderful organization that places hundreds of pets in loving homes every year. One of the great things about the foundation is they host adoption events at local Petsmart locations – Leesburg, Alexandria, Reston, Rockville and 7 Corners to name a few. You can browse on their website for pets that are available for adoption and view their calendar of events to find out where adotion events are being held.
I adopted a pit bull/shar pei mix from Lost Dog and Cat Rescue. Walter was a bait dog from a fighting ring and had been dumped for dead. I had been looking for a dog that no one wanted and I found him through Sara Barnett and LDCRF. Sara filled me in onWalter's story - he had been returned twice because of his severe separation anxiety and costly allergy medication. I knew he would be a lot of work but, with help from my Dad who is a veterinarian felt he could be rehabbed. I appreciated that they were so upfront about the animal's and genuinely care that they go to the right place. Needless to say he’s the best decision I’ve ever made.
Adopting a pet is saving a life and a lot cheaper than buying through a breeder. If you aren’t ready for a pet but, would like to help you can always volunteer or donate.
