Yes, I'd Like To See The Brick House For Sale in Prairie Village

By
Real Estate Agent with Platinum Realty SP00229578 2007027091

lol - I know this has happened to you too! The phone rings; I answer.

Caller: "Yes, I'd like to see the brick house for sale in Prairie Village. I don't remember the address - aside to wife - honey, what street was that house on?" brick home in prairie village

A conversation ensues while I wait patiently (patiently) for him to come back to the phone call he initiated. It's a bit amusing to listen as they try to retrace their drive to figure out which street they may have been on. More amusing is their combined description of the house they relay to me. "It had beautiful roses in the front yard. It had a chimney. It was on that street with all the trees. It's less than a mile from the coffee shop we go to on Sundays. It had black shutters - no, wait, that one didn't have shutters!"

Lovely people, they've just described about 50 homes for sale in Prairie Village. I want to help them, really I do. Roses blooming in Kansas City

There are 3 things I can do for them:

  • I can send them an email with all the houses listed for sale in Prairie Village and they can see which house they liked.
  • I can give them an MLS app that they can use to find out everything about the house on their smartphone while they're sitting in front of it
  • I can arrange to meet with them in person and we can both look on the computer to see the house they like. This option allows us to discuss the details of the house intelligently and determine if it will really meet their needs. If it will, we can make an appointment to see it. And we can also see what else is available that they may have missed.

People do like to drive through the neighborhoods they want to buy in before they're actually prepared to buy. It's fun to look and dream! When they are really and truly ready though, they get an agent to help them. They learn about the steps to buying a house, get their finances in order, and then find the home they'll buy. Their agent will walk them through the process and documents in file  manage all of the documents, negotiating, and closing preparations. Buyers who try to skip this step find the process more overwhelming, confusing, and frustrating than it needs to be.

Random phone calls? Sure, I'm happy to talk to you! If you allow me, though, I can save you time and money. Use the resources at my disposal to make your home buying experience enjoyable and efficient.

Maria,

Because I have indexed IDX listings on my site, I get those calls all the time. Even though the information says "listing courtesy of" they always start the call with "your listing at."

OMG, this is so funny. This reminds of my niece when she was 2 or 3...at a party and tried to describe them to the babysitter.   They have faces with 2 eyes, 2 ears and some lips.

If it weren't so true this would be very funny.  The ones that get mad when I don't know which home they are talking about are the ones that get interesting.

Too funny, but I've had those calls as well. I am reminded of a call I received and the lady was asking about a house just up the street from where she lived. I asked, where do you live and she got very defensive. She said I'm not calling about my house, I want to know about the one up the street. I tried to explain that if I knew which street she lived on I could look up the one she was asking about. I finally explained that our firm had around 450 listings and there's no way I can keep up with all of them. She never would tell me the street she lived on, so I told her I couldn't give her any information.

I think a lot of the public think we only have 1 house for sale and should know all about it. I have also had calls and they think that we own the house that is for sale. I am never surprised at some of the questions I get.

Maria, we've all had these calls at one time or another. Funny, how they think we should know the exact house they are describing. Chances are they wouldn't be able to find it again themselves, if they drove the neighborhood. Go show them some homes! Good luck!

I once got a call from out of state from a woman who claimed that a Realtor kept entering her home without knocking...She was fraught, upset and genuinely scared..It turns out she had a husband...I said, have you talked with your husband? He doesn't know what to do she sez.....Now, there is more to the story and the phone call but...my point, you never know who is calling and why..and this business is an adventure as Fernando says....

LOL David, I'v talked to the same lady! - or several just like her.

Richard, same here. Not only that but sometimes people look at houses in their car and then do a google search to find an agent to call when they get home. So they call me. I'm here to help them but most people don't realize that there are around 20,000 houses for sale in the Greater Kansas City area. We need an address to start with.

Too funny. People call our office all the time with similar storiess/conversations. The best is when they are in front of the house but they still take 5-10 minutes to figure out what street they are on. I love working with the public. Every day is different and if you remain positive, it's it can be very fun and rewarding to help someone out. Have fun today!

Maria, that is so true... I remember a blog by Greg Nino where he said "people think that when we get our license we also get a microchip inserted in our brain, so that we have all the info on all houses for sale  any given second"- I thought of that when someone asked me about "that tall beautiful house on Washington - or was it Beacon?" that she is driving by every other day or so :)

Maria, I think they might have been looking at houses in VA too.  8-)  I do get them from time to time.  "Hi, I'd like to see the house you have listed."  "Which one?"  "The one just off Senseny Rd."  "Which one?"  And so it goes.  It is pretty funny.

Hi Maria,

That is similar to my personal faux pas:

Ring ring. "Hello?"

"Hi, who is this?"

"YOU tell me. You called me."

"I did? What is your name?"

"If you called me, you should know my name..."

Problem is - I was the one who called, but my mind wandered before they answered!
