pukalani superette upcountry mauiPukalani Superette is a great little store in upcountry Maui.  It's on Makawao Avenue, at the intersection with the old Haleakala Highway.  Locals know where it is.  If you can't find what you're looking for in this grocery store, you better head down the road to the Pukalani Terrace Center.

This store has the best pupus, if you're hungry and you need a snack RIGHT NOW.  The other day I stopped in with my dad, and we walked out with some fried teriyaki strips and chicken wing drummettes and we ate them in the car!  They make really good local specialties like potato macaroni salad, teriyaki beef, and chow fun.  The vegetables they sell are locally grown so you know they're fresh.  We also got some ahi to make sashimi.  This is a busy place at the end of the working day, and you can bump into a lot of acquaintances picking up cold beer and other supplies.  Plenty of parking makes it an easy stop.

Today I shopped at the Superette on my way back down the hill from Kula, getting a few things to make a trifle to bring to a friend's house on Christmas Eve.  The store is small enough that you can be in and out really fast.  I ran into someone from Las Vegas, of all people to run into!  He was married over here a couple of years ago.  Small world isn't it?

If you're driving holo holo upcountry, looking at Pukalani properties for sale, be sure to make a pit stop at the Pukalani Superette.  It's convenient, quick and friendly.  Happy trails!

On the other hand - if you want it all, try the Pukalani Terrace Center - sort of "downtown" Pukalani.

I came across this "fruit stand" in Pukalani - someone was giving away his lemons and tangerines.

Sally - lol - but their food is so good!

Chris - it's a treat for me, I don't go there all the time.

Georgina, It seems like a lot to choose from in your country store. Looks can be deceptive.

Georgina, I assume pupus are snacks, Hawaiian style? We have a place like this near us and you always run into someone you know!

How quaint. And I'm sure people love the free stuff too. That was nice of that person to just give away some fruit =)
