Patriot's Day in Massachusetts, Boston Marathon and a One Day Tax Deferment

Tomorrow is a busy day in Massachusetts. There's a lot to celebrate. First, it's Patriot's Day which commemorates the opening battle of the American Revolutionary War, April 19, 1775. The holiday is celebrated with parades, reenactments and commemorative ceremonies.

The Lexington Battle Reenactment and Parade - Lexington Green - 5:30 a.m.

The Town of Lexington MA commemorates the first shots of the American Revolution with an early morning reenactment between the town's militia and the British regulars. Crowds of spectators begin to gather in the early hours before the start of the reenactment. Before 5:30 a.m. you will hear the redcoats marching along Battle Road as they approach Lexington Green.

In nearby Concord MA there is a Patriot's Day Parade with fife and drum bands and groups of Minutemen, starting at 2:00 p.m.

The Boston Marathon also takes place on Patriot's Day. More than 20,000 runners will line up to start the race in Hopkinton MA. The marathon continues 26.2 miles over a course that includes the infamous "heartbreak hill" and ends at Copley Square in Boston. Spectators line the route cheering for the athletes.

Finally, in a state often called "Tax-achusetts", Patriot's Day gives Massachusetts residents a one day extension to file taxes on April 17!
