It is almost official, Texas A&M and Arkansas will play in Dallas at the new stadium for the Dallas Cowboys starting in 2009. The announcement will be made in January once the schools sign the final paperwork for a six to eight year deal.
It will a throwback to the days of the Southwest Conference when A&M and Arkansas use to play annually. The schools haven't played since 1991. The Razorbacks lead the series, 38-24-3. But the Aggies are going to change that now.
Jerry Jones is an Arkansas alum so I'm sure he made this deal happen so he could see his old team in Dallas. The game will be played in late September during the State Fair so fans can go to the Fair. They are discussing giving each ticket holder, a ticket to the State Fair as well. Not sure how well that will work since the new stadium and the Fair are about 30 minutes apart. But I love the Fair and it is worth going if you are in town!
Each team will receive $5 million annually to play in Dallas. That is a lot of money! And if you are keeping score, that is more money than Texas is getting for the Red River Shootout between Texas and OU. The seats will be split 50-50 so that should be a fun atmosphere.
I'm excited about this announcement because it will be easy to see my Aggies play at least once a year now!
Go Ags!
