Edible Wild Plants:  A Slide Presentation and Lecture by Author John Kallas


John Kallas, Ph.D., author of Edible Wild Plants—Wild Food from Dirt to Plate, will present a sampling of the content of his book at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at the Albany Public Library, 2450 14th Avenue SE.  The presentation will be followed by a question-and-answer session and a book signing.  The talk is free and open to the public.

According to reviews, Edible Wild Plants is the first book to make wild foods understandable and usable by the general public.  Dr. Kallas makes it fun and easy to learn about foods that most have unknowingly passed by.  The book reveals how to incorporate these foods into everyday modern life.

Dr. Kallas has investigated edible wild plants since 1970 and taught about them since 1978.  A trained botanist, nature photographer, writer, researcher, and teacher, Dr. Kallas has a doctorate in nutrition and founded Wild Food Adventures, The Institute for the Study of Edible Wild Plants and Other Foragables, in 1993.  He has lived inPortlandsince 1989.  For more information, visit
