The food editors at the Star Trib gave us the low-down on what's hot and what's not....and sometimes even where to find the good ones.
If it is a day like today....25 degrees outside, try the Gigantic Baked Potato, Secion 101 ($8.50). That will not only fill you up, but will keep your hands warm, too. It sports sour cream, salsa, bacon bits, and as they put it, Technicolor-tinted molten cheese.
Taste of the Twins Territory, inside Gate 14 has a winner in its mac and cheese with zesty Buffalo-style chicken and browned bread crumbs and will lighten your wallet at $10.75. No one said balll park food was cheap, did they?
How about the same stand's great impersonation of a sloppy joe with a sesame bun stuffed with slow-simmered ground beef and bacon that's topped with shreddded pepper jack cheese and crispy fried onions? Another hand-warmer and full of things you shouldn't normally eat!
There are also the some great mini-donuts at Section 134 for $5 a cup, hot and right out of the fryer, but skip the SuperMom's which are cole and dry and still the same price.
Also, skip the State Fair Classics' deep-fried dill pickle chips. They say they are overbreaded and fried into oblivion. I wouldn't doubt it.
Skip to the garlic and cheese-glopped fries from the Hennepin Grillle at $8 for a batting helmet filled with them. They also mentioned who would want to bring a greasy old batting helmet home with them? So much for the impulse purchase!
One more good one that might not be as bad for your diet....Lee Ann Chin in Twins Territory has chicken and vegetarian noodle stir-fries with the chicken one getting a thumbs up. It has a sweet-hot chili sauce, too.
Happy eating at the game. That is about all there is to do there since the Twins can't seem to win a game!
