Katy ISD is seeking Donations of Smartphone

Katy ISD which is the school district in Katy TX is seeking donations of smartphone. They are turning the used smartphone into Mobile Learning Devices (MLDs). These MLDs will supplement other devices the School District currently owns and this will increase the technology capability in several classrooms.

The School district uses a variety of Web 2.0 tools that heighten classroom learning and improves student participation due to the use of technology.

Katy ISD has a public Wi-Fi system which was initiated this past year which allows anyone with a Wi-Fi enabled device to access the school district filtered Internet. All donated devices will be placed in schools and made available to students that do not already have their own smartphone technology. Many of the students already are equipped with these smartphones and they will not be eligible to obtain a donated item.

Items the district is accepting include: smartphones, tablets, iTouch and other mobile smart devices that have internet capability.

You can drop off your smartphone and accessories donation at any Katy ISD campus or at the Educational Support Complex. All donations are eligible as a tax deductible donation. No worries the staff will completely clear out all memory so the smartphone is totally clean before being given to any students.

I personally think this is a truly wonderful idea. This allows all the students the opportunity to access the current technology and learn from it regardless of the family’s economic situation. Obviously not all students in Katy ID have their own smartphones. I have an old smartphone I would love to donate but those idiots in my opinion at A T & T did not down load all my contacts properly ( actually none to be precise) when we bought our new phones. I just need to find another 4 hours to hang out at their store to make them do it correctly this time and make them miserable for the inconvenience of having to go through this twice. My data is luckily still on my old phone.
